Brit Beat: Reading & Leeds Festival Boss Talks Rage Against the Machine, Maneskin Dropouts

Mark Sutherland As the touring business continues its uneven return after nearly two years of lockdown, one major bright spot has been the famed U.K. festival sector, which came back with a bang this summer. Reading & Leeds Festival, the traditional finale to the season, took place last weekend and was completely sold out well in advance, contributing to what Festival Republic managing director Melvin Benn calls his “best year ever.” Festival Republic staged events including Wireless, Latitude, Gunnersbury Park and huge outdoor shows from the likes of Liam Gallagher, Sam Fender and George Ezra. But Reading & Leeds remains the jewel in the crown with another hugely successful year, despite one headliner, Rage Against the Machine, pulling out 10 days before the event, due to frontman Zack de la Rocha’s leg injury.

Alec Baldwin plans his return to acting — on Broadway — in first job since ‘Rust’ shooting

the tragic “Rust” shooting last year, will star in a revival of the play “Art” by Yasmina Reza. The 64-year-old will be joined by heavy hitters Tony Shalhoub (“The Band’s Visit”) and John Leguizamo (“Latin History for Morons”), while Tony winner Matthew Warchus (“Matilda”), who first staged the acclaimed comedy on the Great White Way back in 1998, has signed on as director. “Art” will likely open in the spring at a Shubert theater. (The production has been promised a house by the Shubert Organization.)The Post has reached out to reps for Baldwin, Shalhoub, Leguizamo and Warchus for comment. The show marks Baldwin’s first job since the fatal 2021 shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins during filming of the indie movie “Rust” in New Mexico, which occurred while Baldwin was holding an on-set gun loaded with live ammunition that went off. New Mexico’s Office of the Medical Investigator concluded this month that the shooting was an accident, and Baldwin claimed he did not pull the trigger.

‘Pinocchio’ Jumps Into Live-Action in First Trailer for Disney Plus Remake

Wilson Chapman editorPinocchio might not be a real boy just yet, but he definitely is a real puppet.Disney Plus has released the first trailer for “Pinocchio,” a live-action remake of the classic 1940 animated movie of the same name, which hits the service in September.Based on the classic 1883 children’s book “The Adventures of Pinocchio” by Italian author Carlo Collodi, “Pinocchio” stars Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, who provides his voice to the living puppet. Pinocchio is the creation of Geppetto (Tom Hanks), a childless woodcarver, who wishes on a star for Pinocchio to become a real boy. His wish is heard by a Blue Fairy (Cynthia Erivo), who visits his shop and brings the puppet to life. An overjoyed Geppetto raises him like his own son, but for Pinocchio to become a real boy instead of just a living puppet, he’ll need to go on a coming-of-age journey and learn how to be selfless, brave and true.
