New Bob Dylan Recording of ‘Blowin’ in the Wind’ on Unique Medium to Be Auctioned by Christie’s

Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music CriticA new recording of Bob Dylan’s “Blowin’ in the Wind” produced by T Bone Burnett and manufactured as a one-of-a-kind disc in a unique format will be sold at Christie’s in London on July 7, with an estimated value of 600,000-1 million pounds, the auction house announced Wednesday. It’s being described as Dylan’s first studio recording of what is possibly his most famous song since he originally released the folk anthem in 1962. The singular disc, in the acetate-like Ionic Recording format, appears to be autographed by both Dylan and Burnett on one side, and comes in a wooden case that marks it as a “one-of-one.”In late April, Burnett announced that he had gone into the studio with Dylan cut a full album of the legend re-recording his classic material for his new company, NeoFidelity Inc, and its Ionic Originals format, which he described as a new development in analog technology.

The Kid Laroi Details Tattoo Swap With Post Malone, Teases New Album: ‘It’s My Most Personal Project So Far’

Shirley Ju The Kid Laroi’s “Stay,” his monster hit with Justin Bieber, is creeping up on 1 billion on-demand streams, per data from Luminate, with its official music video racking 546 million views on YouTube and counting. To say that Laroi has officially arrived would be an understatement. At only 18 years old, the Australian singer-songwriter has accomplished what many musicians aspire to inin a lifetime: signed to Columbia Records, whose roster includes Adele, Bruce Springsteen and Harry Styles, he’s been nominated for a Grammy, performed on “Saturday Night Live” (alongside Miley Cyrus for his breakout hit, “Without You”) and collaborated with his idol, the late Juice WRLD.Laroi’s most recent release, “Thousand Miles,” written about his current girlfriend before they started dating, made another big splash when it debuted in April, thanks in large part to a TikTok promoting the record, which featured images of Laroi’s former manager Scooter Braun, implying that Braun was a “mistake.” (Braun was in on the hoax, he later revealed; and Laroi has since parted with his most recent representative, Adam Leber.) Variety spoke with Laroi in Culver City, Calif., where he was performing virtually for Kid Cudi’s Encore app.

Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music CriticIn paying tribute to Bob Dylan at a concert held during the opening festivities for the Bob Dylan Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Elvis Costello sang an epic, rip-roaring “Like a Rolling Stone,” apparently the first time he’s covered the signature song of his most obvious influence in full in concert. But earlier in the set Costello also did a lesser-known balladic chestnut from the Dylan catalog: “I Threw It All Away.” Of course, that title was the very opposite of the message being sent out by the new museum.
