Motorists who drive electric vehicles have been issued a warning as their cars may not be prepared for the winter ahead.
The cold temperatures could have an impact on an electric car's lithium-ion battery, and may lead to you having to charge your vehicle more regularly. It's also worth looking into more general vehicle tweaks to prepare for the harsher weather, such as winter tires.
Thankfully, the experts at EV subscription service elmo have shared some of the things that electric vehicle motorists can do to get ready for colder months.
Olly Jones, co-founder at elmo says: "If you have an electric vehicle it’s really important to make sure you keep your vehicle charged and allow more time for charging.
"Batteries work slower in colder weather and so when the temperature drops you need to make sure you’re keeping your vehicle as charged as possible, around 40-80% is ideal. If you have the ability to store your car in a garage then you should do so."
You also have to carry out a few pre-journey checks before setting off during the winter months.
Olly explains: "It's also important to perform checks on your car before you depart, this includes making sure you have sufficient battery power for your journey.
"In winter it's vital to check your tyres more often than normal as cold temperatures and poor road conditions can affect tyre pressure and condition. Damaged tyres mean you will have less control over your vehicle which can be disastrous in icy or wet conditions."
The motoring expert says that these checks should reduce your chances of your car faulting in the cold. However, Olly suggests that you prepare ahead of time should you ever break down.
He said: "If the worst should happen and you do break down in the cold
