A warning has been fired to families after a group of youths were found swimming in a Manchester reservoir. Officers were called out to reports of youngsters at Heaton Park reservoir on Tuesday (May 17), before the group tried to escape as cops arrived.
It comes as Greater Manchester basked in sunshine and warm temperatures earlier this week - while the region's fire and rescue service has again urged residents not to swim in open water over safety concerns. Now, police are urging parents to discuss the dangers of swimming in reservoirs with their children.
A spokesperson for GMP Manchester North said: "Yesterday officers from the Higher Blackley neighbourhood team attended reports of youths swimming in Heaton Park reservoir. On our arrival several youths made off from police.

"A few of these were later stopped and details were taken. Home visits for these youths will take place.
"This is prohibited and clearly dangerous, due to the currents and temperature of the water, as well as other hazards. We will continue to step up patrols in the area to educate the public, especially younger people.
"Our ask is that you speak to your children if you suspect they are involved in this sort of activity. If you need any further information or advice on this matter, please email [email protected]."
Earlier today (Wednesday), Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service reminded people of the dangers of open water swimming. A post on its Twitter page said: "Did you know Cold Water Shock can kill even strong swimmers, and under-water currents can be deadly?
