Vin Diesel has revealed that the Fast & Furious franchise may wind down with three films, rather than the two previously discussed.
The F&F actor-producer’s comments came during an appearance alongside co-star Michelle Rodriguez on the red carpet of Fast X in Rome. When asked by Fandango’s Nan Perez about what lies ahead for his globe-trotting street racer Dominic Toretto beyond the new film, which hits theaters on May 19, Diesel said, “It’s a really good question. As filmmakers, you want to allow people to enjoy the film without tipping the hat too much. I can say this. Going into making this movie, the studio had asked if this could be a two-parter. And after the studio saw this, part one, they said, could you make Fast X, the finale, a trilogy?”
“It’s three acts in any story,” teased Rodriguez.
When Perez asked if this could be taken as official confirmation that the pair will be making a 12th Fast & Furious film, Diesel said, “We probably are,” subsequently fleeing the scene before either he or Rodriguez could say too much.
Previously billed as the penultimate installment of Fast & Furious, Fast X picks up with Dom and his crew as they look to fend off the pair of big bads — the cyberterrorist Cipher (Charlize Theron) and her mysterious cohort, Dante (Jason Momoa) — with the help of a new friend, Tess (Brie Larson).
Fast X‘s cast also includes Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, John Cena, Jason Statham, Alan Ritchson, Nathalie Emmanuel, Michael Rooker, Helen Mirren, Daniela Melchior, Jordana Brewster, Cardi B and Scott Eastwood, Rita Moreno and Leo Abelo Perry. And original franchise star Paul Walker’s daughter Meadow will appear in the film in a cameo to “honor” the legacy of her late father, as

Vin Diesel loves when the family comes together.Diesel spoke with ET's Matt Cohen on Saturday at the block party for Charlize Theron's Africa Outreach project in Los Angeles, where he reacted to the shocking credits scene, which features Dwayne Johnson's return to the franchise as Agent Luke Hobbs.Following a social media spat between Diesel and Johnson, Johnson vowed in 2021 that there was «no chance» of him returning to star in a movie — with plans instead to spin off his and Jason Statham's characters in a series of films. However, the post-credits scene features Jason Momoa's villain calling Hobbs to tell him he's coming for him next — all but confirming Johnson's return for the 11th film.«We have such a great cast,» Diesel shared when asked about the surprise return. «We lead with love.
As expected, “Fast X” was released on Friday and debuted at #1 pretty much all over the world. It’s clear, even after 10 main films and one spinoff, Vin Diesel’s action franchise is still beloved by fans.
Marc Malkin Senior Film Awards, Events & Lifestyle Editor SPOILER ALERT: This story contains spoilers for “Fast X,” now playing in theaters. Vin Diesel says spinoffs of the “Fast & Furious” franchise are already in the works, including a female-led installment. “I started developing the female spinoff…in 2017 with other spinoffs, and the sooner I deliver the finale, the sooner I can launch all the spinoffs,” he told me Saturday at the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project (CTAOP) Block Party. “Fast X” is the first of a two-part ending, but “it’s bittersweet to think of a finale,” Diesel said. In an interview on May 12 at the Rome premiere, he teased that the ending might be spread out over three films. “Look how many characters and great talent there is in the movie,” Diesel said of the possible 12th film. “There was no way I can pull that off unless I had everyone on for five seconds. These characters are appealing and we need to see more of them.”
Vin Diesel isn't ready to call it quits officially just yet!Diesel spoke with ET's Matt Cohen on Saturday at the block party for Charlize Theron's Africa Outreach project in Los Angeles, and he played coy when asked exactly how much more fuel the franchise has in the tank. While fans already know that the newisn't the end of the road — as Diesel announced at this year's CinemaCon that an 11th film is slated for release in 2025 — many are wondering just how many more installments could be expected. For Diesel, this is a delicate subject — specifically because of how much love there is for the franchise as a whole.«The last time I told my daughter [it] was the last one, all I saw was tears,» Diesel said with a small laugh. «So I gotta be really careful [about] who and what I say.»One thing he's not worried about is praising the franchise's incredible and unexpectedly large ensemble cast, who came together to create a thrilling 10th installment in the series, which has been ongoing for more than 22 years.«We have such a great cast,» Diesel marveled.
