Vertical Entertainment Acquires ‘The Storied Life Of A.J. Fikry’ Film Starring Kunal Nayyar, Lucy Hale, Christina Hendricks & More

EXCLUSIVE: Vertical Entertainment has secured North American rights to the romantic drama Alone Together, written, directed by and starring Katie Holmes, which will make its world premiere in the Spotlight Narrative section of the Tribeca Film Festival on June 14. Vertical plans to release the film exclusively in theaters in July 22, with a VOD bow to follow on July 29.

EXCLUSIVE: Vertical Entertainment has acquired North American rights to the political satire Land of Dreams, directed by Shirin Neshat and Shoja Azari, which is making its North American premiere in the Spotlight Narrative section of the Tribeca Film Festival in June. The global indie distributor has slated the film for a day-and-date theatrical release in 10 of the top 20 markets—including in Los Angeles and New York—this fall. Jem Aswad Senior Music EditorToro y Moi, a.k.a Chaz Bear, has officially released “Goes By So Fast: A Mahal Film,” a short film starring Eric André and Chaz that, according to the announcement, “brings the world of Toro y Moi’s seventh studio album, ‘Mahal,’ to life.” The film was in partnership with Dropbox and directed by long-time Toro y Moi collaborator Harry Israelson, written by Sidney Schleiff and Israelson and produced by Ways & Means.Watch the film below.Israelson says, “Having worked with Chaz for over a decade, there’s been this natural evolution of our storytelling; with ‘Mahal,’ from day one we discussed a companion film. EXCLUSIVE: Blackstone Publishing has acquired worldwide publishing rights to Sean Scott Hicks’ autobiography, The Devil To Pay: A Mobster’s Road To Perdition. The company’s Director of Media, TV and Film, Brendan Deneen brokered the deal and will now edit the book, while shopping film and TV rights to studios and streamers.

The first time Joe Alwyn came to the Cannes Film Festival in 2018, he walked away with the Trophée Chopard. Now he is back to help director Claire Denis compete for the Palme d’Or with Stars at Noon, based on the novel by Denis Johnson. Alwyn stars in the romantic thriller as a mysterious businessman in Nicaragua who falls in love with an American journalist, played by Margaret Qualley. In addition to Stars at Noon, Alwyn also stars in the BBC Three/Hulu series Conversations with Friends directed by Lenny Abrahamson and based on the Sally Rooney novel, which premiered May 15.

A new Ocean’s Eleven film starring Margot Robbie is in “active development” at Warner Bros., Deadline can confirm. Four-time Emmy winner Jay Roach is looking to direct the pic, which is not yet greenlighted.

TWICE recently appeared in-person on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert to perform their hit English single ‘The Feels’.On the May 18 broadcast of the late-night American talk show, host Stephen Colbert ushered the nine-member girl group with a brief introduction, before TWICE kickstarted their performance of ‘The Feels’.The girl group utilised much of the talk show’s set during their performance, making use of Colbert’s desk and more to showcase the song’s choreography throughout their performance. Moreover, TWICE also changed up the instrumental for the live version of ‘The Feels’, adding an extra set of horns for the song’s final chorus.Their live appearance on The Late Show marked TWICE’s in-person television debut in the United States.

Greenwich Entertainment announced the acquisition of North American distribution rights to Stay Prayed Up, the feature directorial debut of co-director Matt Durning and second feature from co-director D.L. Anderson (Farmer/Veteran).  The Vittles Films and Interlocking Pictures documentary premiered to rave reviews at its World Premiere at the Telluride Film Festival and at DOC NYC.  Greenwich will release the film in theaters on June 17.
