Looks like we’ll have to wait a little bit longer to find out more about Guillermo Del Toro’s next flick, “Nightmare Alley,” as the film appears to be skipping the 78th edition of the Venice Film Festival. Based on Lindsay Gresham’s 1946 novel and its film adaptation by Edmund Goulding the following year, the film stars Bradley Cooper and co-stars Cate Blanchett, Willem Dafoe, Toni Collette, Richard Jenkins, and Rooney Mara.

Venice Film Festival chief Alberto Barbera was feeling upbeat when we caught up with him this evening following today’s reveal of a tantalizing lineup for the 78th edition. Notably, after largely sitting out last year, the studios are back with titles from Universal, Warner Bros and Disney (via 20th Century) as is Netflix, and Barbera said they were all enthusiastic about returning to the Lido. He also expects many more people than last year and “a lot of guests and talent from the U.S.”

“The 78th Venice International Film Festival is organized by La Biennale di Venezia and directed by Alberto Barbera. It will take place at Venice Lido from 1 – 11 September 2021. The Festival is officially recognised by the FIAPF (International Federation of Film Producers Association).
