With the only major US film festival to happen in 2020 being Sundance, it’s not hyperbolic to say that the New York Film Festival is poised to be one of the biggest events in American film this year. It’s kinda that way by default.

The 2020 Venice Film Festival has added another pair of films to its official lineup. Run Hide Fight, an action film from Kyle Rankin starring Isabel May and Thomas Jane, will have its world premiere out of competition in Venice, as will Fiori, Fiori, Fiori!, a documentary short from Call Me By Your Name director Luca Guadagnino.

NEW YORK -- Chloe Zhao's “Nomadland,” starring Frances McDormand, will premiere across the major fall film festivals in an alliance forged by the Venice, Toronto, New York and Telluride festivals. “Nomadland,” Zhao's follow-up to her acclaimed 2018 film “The Rider,” is the first movie announced in the new partnership that has brought together the fall's biggest movie launch pads, which typically compete against each other for world premiere rights.

Well, it looks like the fall film festival season is really hoping it can still go on. The New York Film Festival, in some form or another, is especially pressing ahead, revealing the first of their big three movies for 2020, which will be Chloé Zhao’s road trip tale Nomadland, starring Frances McDormand.

Off the back of a string of award-nominated films about romance and angst in the Italian countryside (with the notable exception of “Suspiria”), Luca Guadagnino is bringing his sunny, sentimental cinematic style to television for the first time, with the eight-episode series “We Are Who We Are.” A story about two American kids who live on a U.S. military base in Italy, the series explores friendship, first love, identity, and all the messy exhilaration and anguish of being a teenager.
