US President Joe Biden has taken a swipe at Liz Truss's economic plan ahead of their meeting in New York at the United Nations tomorrow.
The Prime Minister jetted to the Big Apple on Monday evening following the Queen's funeral and ahead of the annual General Assembly.
Truss is set to meet French President Emmanuel Macron and president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen later today before talks with Biden on Wednesday.
Biden and the new PM are set to discuss a number of issues from the war in Ukraine to Brexit and the Northern Ireland protocol.
He said he was "sick and tired" of the theory that cutting taxes for businesses and the wealthy will see the benefits "trickle down" into the pockets of poorer workers.
Biden tweeted: "I am sick and tired of trickle-down economics. It has never worked. We're building an economy from the bottom up and middle out."
His comments came as the Prime Minister and Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng finalise a mini-budget on Friday. It is expected to see previously planned increases in corporation tax scrapped and the hike in national insurance reversed, while also ending a curb on bankers' bonuses.
While on the flight to New York Truss conceded that negotiations for a post-Brexit free trade deal with the US will not restart for years.
She stressed her trade priority is striking agreements with India and the Gulf states, and joining a trade pact with nations including Australia and Japan.
But she heavily downplayed the chances of talks even resuming to get the comprehensive deal with the States that was billed by Brexit backers as a major benefit of leaving the EU during the referendum.
