Each year the Guardian compiles a list of the top universities based on a range of factors including student satisfaction with courses and teaching, money spent, student to staff ratios, how many students continue in their studies and career prospects. Each university is given a score out of 100 based on this research and the institutions are then ranked in order.
The top university this year is the University of Oxford closely followed by the University of Cambridge. In third place is St Andrews in Scotland, followed by the London School of Economics, both of which have scores above 90.
