‘Heat bomb’ on track to hit Britain with sizzling 40 degrees arriving down south

A sizzling heatwave might be on the horizon for the UK later this month, despite summer bringing Brits a mixed bag of sunshine and downpours so far. Recently, temperatures have hovered in the comfortable high teens to low twenties Celsius, but weather maps hint at a potential rise as we head towards the end of July, thanks to a European 'heat bomb.' One forecast predicts that by 6pm on July 25, London could see highs of 27C, while Norwich might bask in 25C, Newcastle and Manchester could enjoy 24C, and Cardiff is also expected to hit 24C.

Vampire Weekend recall concerns of being a “one-hit wonder” with ‘A-Punk’: “There’s a novelty aspect to it”

Vampire Weekend frontman Ezra Koenig has recalled how he had real concerns of being a “one-hit wonder” during the early part of their career. The band enjoyed huge success with their self-titled 2008 debut album after their second single ‘A-Punk’ went to Number 12 in the official UK singles chart. That album, which also spawned the likes of ‘Mansard Roof’ and ‘Oxford Comma’, peaked at Number 15 in the UK album chart and Number 17 in the Billboard, earning them slots at major festivals including Glastonbury.Despite enjoying their early success, Koenig told Rick Rubin on his podcast Tetragrammaton: “Going round the world obviously was pretty novel and then the shows getting bigger and bigger. If I really think back to that time, I think I was equally excited by our success and equally wounded by my first taste of criticism and becoming a public facing person.“I didn’t really know how to roll with the punches so even if I didn’t sit in anger necessarily all the time, of course like anybody I’d read some review or some hate and be like, ‘They don’t know the first thing about me’.

Mickey singer Toni Basil turns back clock as she looks sensational at 80 - 42 years after hit

Toni Basil's peppy pop hit Mickey is known for its energy-packed, cheerleader chant chorus - and even at 80 years old, the singer still looks as sensational as she did in her MTV star days. Back in 1982, Toni released a remake of a single called Kitty from British glam-pop group Racey, changing the name to Mickey and slapping on an incredibly catchy cheerleader-inspired chant of "Hey Mickey!" She even wore her own former high school cheerleading outfit for the iconic video, one of the first to be shown on the then newly-launched music video channel MTV, and it proved an instant pop classic that endures decades on.
