Two young men have been jailed for conspiring to assault a 16-year-old boy.
Aaron Travers, of Great Howard Street, Liverpool, and Jamie Sheffield, of Langsett Avenue, Salford, both admitted conspiracy to commit assault occasioning actual bodily harm when they appeared before the courts. A hearing at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court on Friday afternoon, August 12, heard the two men, both aged 18, committed the offence in March of this year, when Travers was serving a sentence for an unrelated offence in a young offenders institution in Yorkshire.
Wayne Jackson, prosecuting, told the court that Travers had called one of his approved contacts to ask them to put him in touch with Sheffield, instructing them to set up a call forwarding system. Over the phone, Travers asked Sheffield to assault a 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, saying he wanted the child to be “battered and broken” and “give it to him hard” before adding the youngster “doesn’t need a few hits, he needs stomping out and hurting”, instructing his associate to use as many people as he wanted for the assault, but no weapons were to be used in the attack.

The plan was then called off a few hours later, after Travers called back and rescinded his request around five hours later. Sheffield has three convictions for four offences including robberies in 2019 and 2020 whilst Travers has three convictions for nine offences including a robbery in 2019, not related to the one Sheffield was involved in, vehicle
