She even turned down multiple offers to star in what would become a breakthrough role. “I got the email, passed on it,” Ortega said. “I had done so much TV in my life. All I’ve ever wanted to do is film…You have to prove yourself. It’s only in the last three or four years that I’ve been able to start going up for film. I was scared that by signing on to another television show it could prevent me from doing other jobs I really wanted and cared about.”

When “Scream” landed in theaters in January 2022, a month that works well for horror but is also often considered a dumping ground for so-so content, the reboot/sequel was greeted with one of the biggest cinematic sighs of relief in recent years. Not only did it not suck, but for the vast majority of people, the fifth entry exceeded expectations and revitalized the film series.
