Jeffrey Dean Morgan has shared a behind-the-scenes snap from an upcoming The Walking Dead spin-off also starring Lauren Cohan. The pair are reprising their roles as Maggie and Negan from the main post-apocalyptic zombie drama in The Walking Dead: Dead City. In the black and white picture, posted on Jeffrey’s Instagram, the two stars cosy up to one another in their characters’ costumes.

The Walking Dead spin-off Dead City was revealed.The actor, who plays Negan in the AMC series, is set to reprise his role in the spin-off alongside Lauren Cohan’s Maggie. The show was announced in March 2022, originally titled Isle Of The Dead, before the main show’s final set of episodes in October this year.The early announcement met some confusion as it revealed Negan and Maggie would both survive beyond the main show.

Brian Cox, Mark Ruffalo, Benicio del Toro and Melissa Leo are featured, while Kinology is handling sales. “It’s almost as if she was the one being auditioned. I wanted to treat her almost like a character in a movie. She is looking straight into the eyes of the audience,” says Wallon. Adapting to the new role was hard, Timmermann tells Variety in Venice, but luckily it came with some perks.

Walter Hill, now 80, joins their ranks with an improbably youthful horse opera, and while it shows up the limitations of both writing and shooting a Western in the modern age (concessions to modern sensitivities have to be made, and digital cinematography somehow just doesn’t cut it with the subject matter), it’s nevertheless a wickedly enjoyable genre romp and full of violent surprises.
