That result tops the $920 million grossed last December, and falls just short of becoming the first $1-billion month the box office has seen since the $1.14 billion grossed in December 2019. That it has come short is a quirk of the calendar, since June totals would have hit the $1 billion mark had the end of the month fallen on a Friday instead of a Thursday.

‘Top:Gun Maverick’ has had impressive success at the box office since premiering, achieving more than $1 billion dollars worlwide and making history as the first Tom Cruise film to make this happen.After breaking the record for biggest opening over Memorial Day weekend with an estimated $156 million dollars domestically during the four-day weekend, taking the place of ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End’ in 2007, ‘Maverick’ has now crossed the $1 billion mark.Paramount reported that this is the second-highest-grossing film in their long history behind the 1997 film Titanic, in reference to domestic figures. “It’s rare to get the special kind of alchemy that creates a true event film, and we have been absolutely blown away by the global response,” Brian Robbins, Paramount Pictures‘ president and CEO, stated.Tom Cruise is currently enjoying the success of the film, as this is the first project in his long Hollywood career, reaching more than $1 billion worldwide.This is also the second movie to make $1 billion at the global box office post-pandemic, getting to the level of success as “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” which was released in December 2021.The actor recently shared his excitement with fans at the Cannes Film Festival.

I guess that’s a secret skill I have,” he told LADBible.“If anything I think it made me really appreciate how nice it is not to have to, you know, go 500 knots an hour all the time,” he added of his new appreciation for commercial flights.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is set to be re-released in cinemas as a new extended version.The blockbuster Marvel film was originally released last year, going on to make $1.9billion (£1.5billion) at the global box office and marking the first film to hit the $1billion (£746.4million) mark at the box office since 2019.Following its success, Sony has confirmed Spider-Man: No Way Home: The More Fun Stuff Version will hit the big screen on September 2 in the US and Canada, and will have “added and extended scenes”, according to Marvel.The announcement was made with a Twitter video of stars Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, in which they all jokingly claim to be Spider-Man.

It’s only the third time in the pandemic era that ticket sales have collectively eclipsed the $200 million mark, according to Comscore.

That result is third behind only “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” on the list of the top COVID-era domestic openings and is also just a few million short of the $148 million opening of “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” in 2018. Combined with $177 million grossed from 72 overseas markets, “Jurassic World: Dominion” has grossed $320 million worldwide this weekend and $389 million to date, putting it well on track to join the other “Jurassic World” films on the list of $1 billion global grossers.

Thanks to positive word of mouth, rapturous reviews and premium screens, ticket sales declined only 29% in its second weekend — the lowest percentage in history for a movie that debuted to $100 million or more, according to Comscore.

Spider-Man: No Way Home and HBO’s Euphoria were crowned the best of movie and television, respectively, at tonight’s MTV Movie & TV Awards.

That result is the best second weekend hold for any film that has opened to over $100 million, dropping just 32% from the Tom Cruise sequel’s $126.7 million 3-day opening. By comparison, the Marvel films “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” both fell 67% in their second weekend while Warner Bros./DC’s “The Batman” fell 50% in its second weekend back in March.In addition, the film is now already Cruise’s highest grossing domestic release before inflation adjustment and Paramount’s highest grossing film since “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” ($352 million) in 2011, ranking in the studio’s top 10 all-time.
