Darren Criss (“American Buffalo”) and Julianne Hough (“POTUS”), meanwhile, are hosting an hour-long pre-show — titled “The Tony Awards: Act One” — that includes an hour of performances and early honors, streaming on Paramount+.“A Strange Loop” leads the nominations with 11 total, while the Michael Jackson musical “MJ” and the play “Paradise Square” each have 10 nods. “Company” and “The Lehman Trilogy” follow with nine and eight nods, respectively, while “for colored girls who have considered suicide when the rainbow is enuf” garnered five.
Among the top Great White Way nominees are “The Music Man” co-stars Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster, Billy Crystal (“Mr. Saturday Night”), Sam Rockwell (“American Buffalo”), Phylicia Rashad (“Skeleton Crew”) and Matt Doyle (“Company”).
