After 16 years in the weeds—tons of projects in development, none of them panning out, projects that could have included Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale, Daniel Craig, and more—filmmaker Todd Field returned last year with the critically acclaimed “TÁR” starring Cate Blanchett (#1 on our list of the Best Films of 2022). It’s a bold, audacious drama, and it will likely be nominated for several Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Director, and more.
CNN has obtained the exclusive rights to show the Kennedy Center’s Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, this year honoring Adam Sandler.
Earlier today, Netflix unveiled its teaser trailer for all of the major film releases the streamer will debut in 2023. Yes, there were the usual suspects, folks like Kevin Hart, Adam Sandler, and Chris Hemsworth all have new projects coming to Netflix, per usual.
Netflix offered a first look at its 2023 slate of films on Wednesday, including a brand new thriller from David Fincher, a sci-fi epic from Zack Snyder, Chris Hemworth’s “Extraction” sequel, a Jennifer Lopez survival movie and an Adam Sandler/Jennifer Aniston comedy.Hemsworth will return in “Extraction 2” this summer on June 16, with Sam Hargrave back in the director’s chair for another action-fueled adventure.Fincher’s “The Killer” – which reunites the filmmaker with his “Seven” screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker for a serial killer tale starring Michael Fassbender – won’t arrive until Nov. 10, so Fincher fans have awhile to wait.Ditto Zack Snyder’s next film, “Rebel Moon.” That project is a two-part space epic, with the first installment set as Netflix’s big holiday season release on Dec.
Netflix has unveiled its 2023 feature film slate, consisting of 49 titles.
Um… Is Austin Butler trying to rewrite history here?!
Adam Sandler nudged out Tom Cruise, Ana de Armas and Eddie Redmayne got in while “The Fabelmans” stars Michelle Williams and Judd Hirsh did not and “Babylon” and “Women Talking” were nominated as the year’s best ensemble even though neither film received a single individual acting nomination. Such were the vagaries of the 29th annual Screen Actors Guild Award nominations, which were announced on Wednesday morning in a ramshackle Instagram Live presentation by Ashley Park and Haley Lu Richardson. In most cases, the 2,000-plus randomly-selected SAG members who made up the film and television nominating committees stuck to the favorites: Austin Butler, Colin Farrell, Brendan Fraser, Cate Blanchett and Michelle Yeoh in the lead categories, Brendan Gleeson, Ke Huy Quan, Angela Bassett, Kerry Condon, Jamie Lee Curtis and Stephanie Hsu in supporting and “Babylon,” “The Banshees of Inisherin,” Everything Everywhere All at Once,” “The Fabelmans” and “Women Talking” in the ensemble category. If there were surprises in the film categories, they were that a pair of Netflix stars, Sandler and de Armas, crashed the top five.
Rumor time, I guess, something we try and stay away from when possible, but it’s the dregs of news out there; still technically the holidays for us, and maybe we can make one exception for something that doesn’t sound entirely far-fetched. According to the New York Post, Brad Pitt and Adam Sandler will star in a new Noah Baumbach film for Netflix.
