It’s a truth universally acknowledged that TikTok is a great place to pick up time-saving hair and makeup hacks and beauty product recommendations – from heated rollers that promise Dyson Airwrap-like curls to time-saving hacks like using fake tan as lip liner. One of the latest to catch our eye is a hair oil that beauty fans are hailing as an alternative to Olaplex’s No.7 Bonding Oil, £28 here, which may be worth trying out if you can’t quite stretch to the higher-end price tag.
Creator @lifewithhopee shared a video claiming that Shea Moisture’s Reconstructive Finishing Elixir, £11.99 here, is “the best Olaplex Bonding Oil dupe”. She also added in the comments section that “it helps so much with frizz and dryness!! I put it on after my hair dries and it literally takes away almost all of the frizz and leaves it shiny”.
Naturally fans were delighted at the news of a potential alternative, taking to the comments section to express their excitement. “I KNEW IT I have had both on my dresser for years,” one said, as another added, “I love Shea Moisture they have the best hair masks.” However, some fans pointed out that this particular buy won’t have the same technology that Olaplex is famous for and doesn’t offer heat protection.
“Just remember Olaplex is literally patented technology,” one wrote, as another asked, “How is it a dupe with no heat protectant?” This isn’t the only suggested alternative to go viral on the app, of course. At the start of the year a £5 Primark buy took off in similar fashion after one fan claimed she saw better results in her hair than when she used the Olaplex treatment.
