Public health warning issued for -6C lows as UK braces for 5 day cold snap
weather this week as officials issued a public health warning for subzero temperatures. The Met Office has applied an advisory for cold weather in England for the West Midlands, East Midlands, East, South East, and South West from 6pm on Wednesday 19 January to 9am on Sunday 23 January.Overnight lows of -6C are expected in Oxfordshire on Thursday, with mist also likely to cause issues in many parts of southern England. The UK Health and Security Agency (UKHSA) has even asked Britons to drop in on elderly or vulnerable friends and neighbours when the so-called 'big freeze' hits.Agostinho Sousa, Consultant in Public Health Medicine at UKHSA, said: "Cold weather can have a serious impact on health, particularly for older people and those with heart and lung problems, as it increases the risks of heart attacks, strokes and chest infections."Remind vulnerable relatives and neighbours to heat their home to at least 18°C – particularly if they have reduced mobility, are 65 or older, or have a health condition. Should they need to go outside, it’s important for them to wear shoes with a good grip."Steve Ramsdale, Chief Meteorologist at the Met Office, has offered an explanation for the temperature drop and said that things should warm up by the weekend. He said: "A change in conditions brings cold air to the UK, spreading from the north later on Wednesday then lingering over England and Wales for the rest of the week and into the weekend. With easing winds and good clear spells, a widespread frost is likely on Thursday and Friday morning with temperatures recovering somewhat by day.

Prince Andrew would 'shout and scream' if maids touched his teddy bears
Prince Andrew would have raging temper tantrums and "shout and scream" if maids rearranged the 60-odd teddy bears piled on top of his bed, an ITV documentary claims.Former member of the Royal Protection Command Paul Page, told journalist Ranvir Singh about the prince's weird attachment to the collection of stuffed toys on the documentary, Ghislaine, Prince Andrew and the Paedophile. The ex-royal copper, who provided security for the Royal Family between 1998 and 2004 and who had access to the duke's apartment, alleges that the Queen's favourite son had a bed piled high with "50 to 60" stuffed teddy bears.Page also claims Prince Andrew, who was recently stripped of his military and royal titles, would fly into fits of rage if he saw that the stuffed toys were out of place after the maids had been in the room.Page said: “It had about 50 or 60 stuffed toys positioned on the bed and basically there was a card the inspector showed us in a drawer and it was a picture of these bears all in situ.“The reason for the laminated picture was if those bears weren’t put back in the right order by the maids, he would shout and scream.”These are not the only teddy bears the disgraced duke allegedly owns. In 2009, journalist Elizabeth Day interviewed the Queen's middle son at his Buckingham Palace apartment.

Jay-Z, Meek Mill and more push for law that would stop New York prosecutors using rap lyrics as evidence
Jay-Z, Meek Mill, Big Sean and more have united to support a proposed New York state law that would limit prosecutors’ ability to use defendants’ rap lyrics as evidence of alleged crimes. As Rolling Stone reports, the rap giants have added their names to a letter calling on lawmakers to pass Senate Bill S7527 – which was first revealed in November and which passed through the Senate Codes committee earlier this week – into state law. Others who have signed on to the letter include Fat Joe, Kelly Rowland and Killer Mike. The bill, brought forward by Democrat senators Brad Hoylman and Jamaal Bailey and assembly member Catalina Cruz, would limit a defendant’s music or other “creative expression” being shown to a jury in criminal trials, requiring prosecutors to provide “clear and convincing evidence” that that expression is “literal, rather than figurative or fictional”.Highlighting the disparity between rap lyrics being used as evidence with other forms of expression, Hoylman provides two examples – no one, he says, believes Johnny Cash “shot a man in Reno just to watch him die“, nor that David Byrne is a “psycho killer“.“This is an issue that’s important to [Jay-Z, aka Sean Carter] and all the other artists that have come together to try to bring about this change.
