Households everywhere have seen huge hikes in their energy bills - with many unable to afford their essential bills and food shopping. And with the surge in prices set to rocket even further in the coming winter season, families are bing left at breaking point.
In a bid to help, local councils are now offering eligible households free cash to eligible households. The government-backed Household Support Fund is a pot of £500 million that is being given out based on an area’s size and need and it is then down to the local authority to hand out the free cash to those who need it.
Local households can make their claim - for up to £400 - via their local council website. To be eligible, each household will need to offer proof that - after paying out for your essential bills in the month such as your mortgage or rent, utilities and food - you have £150 or less left for the remainder of the month. This proof will need to be in the form of your bank statement and monthly bills that will be required by the council when making the claim. To look into claiming, you’ll need to find your local council, and you can find your council via the gov.uk website.
Each council may vary on how to apply and if you can’t find the information you need on the website, give your local council a call.
