Firefighters were scrambled to the M60 motorway this afternoon following reports of a car on fire during the soaring heat.
Around 4pm on Saturday (August 13), firefighters from Offeron, Stockport and Whitehill fire stations were called to the M60, near Sharston Link and where it joins with the M56 clockwise, to bring the vehicle fire under control.

The eye-witness said a Cadent worker was also present at the scene, helping to guide oncoming traffic away from the incident.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire Rescue Service (GMFRS) said the vehicle was left ‘totally destroyed’ following the incident. The vehicle, alongside the surrounding area and foilage, was all doused to prevent fire spreading in the extreme heat.
Firefighters remained at the scene for 45 minutes.
The GMFRS spokesperson said: “Around 4pm this afternoon, 13th August, firefighters from Offerton, Stockport, and Whitehill fire stations brought a vehicle fire under control on the M60 motorway. Officers from the Highways Agency were first on scene and kept the vehicle occupants safe.
“Firefighters doused not only the vehicle which was totally destroyed, but also all of the surrounding area and foliage to prevent the fire spreading in the extreme heat we are experiencing. Firefighters left the scene after approximately 45 minutes.”
