Patrick Frater Asia Bureau Chief Korean film producer Baek Jaeho has been named as the inaugural recipient of the Choon-yun Award, a prize set up in honor of Lee Choon-yun, the late chairman of the Korean Association of Film Art & Industry. The award, worth KRW10 million ($7,100), will be presented on the sidelines of the Busan International Film Festival on Oct. 6 in conjunction with IOK Company. Baek participated in the production of 2021 title “Snowball” and was previously involved in indie films “Jane” in 2016 and last year’s “Role.” He also acts and directs. Veteran director Kang Je-kyu praised Baek as ”a filmmaker who maintains his values and outspreads his potential in the insufficient independent film environment.”

Elsa Keslassy International Correspondent Ruben Östlund’s Palme d’Or winning film “Triangle of Sadness” has been sold by Coproduction Office to major distributors around the world. “Triangle of Sadness,” which was acquired by Neon for North America at the Cannes Film Festival, just had its North American premiere at Toronto and is playing at the San Sebastian Film Festival. Coproduction Office has now sold the movie worldwide to major distributors. Recent deals have been closed with Stay Golden (China), Edko (Hong Kong), Impact (India), Gaga (Japan), Green Narae (South Korea), Catchplay (Taiwan), TBA Studios (Philippines), Sun (Latin America), Frontrow (Middle East), Forefont (South Africa) and Les Films 26 (French-speaking Africa). 

Brad Pitt has unveiled his debut sculptures at a Finnish art gallery, alongside Australian musician Nick Cave.On Saturday (September 17), the actor presented his first-ever public art display at the Sara Hildén Art Museum in Tampere, the third-largest city in Finland. Shane Warne’s family have had ‘crisis talks’ with an Australian TV channel after they slammed a telemovie planned just six months after the cricketing legend’s death, it’s been reported. Channel Nine reportedly began working on a two-part film based on the popular sportsman just weeks after his sudden death at the age of 52 in Thailand. Titled Warnie, the drama has come under fire from Warne’s daughter Brooke, 25, who called it ‘disrespectful’ on Instagram earlier this week.

The Daily Mail and said that an anonymous letter was sent to the film’s studio Skydance accusing him of 40 years ago having “touched someone outside their clothes and referring to the female athletes he coached by inappropriate nicknames. Kinder in his interview with The Daily Mail denied any misconduct and further said he was shocked at the news from earlier this week that the film will not move forward. Kinder said he was contacted by investigators hired by Skydance after the letter was received and that he and the other subjects of the film, now all adult women, had informed him there was “nothing there” in terms of the investigations.

Skydance will no longer move forward with a film called “Dallas Sting” meant to star Matthew McConaughey after an investigation into the film’s true story uncovered disturbing allegations, an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.The film from director Kari Skogland (Marvel’s “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”) was meant to kick off production in six weeks and had nearly completed casting. “Dallas Sting” is the true story of a high school girls soccer team that in 1984 went to China and managed to beat some of the best women’s teams in the world from China, Australia, Japan and finally Italy in a championship game.

Consent Labs conducted a study of 1000 Aussies between 18 and 44 years of age. They showed participants intimate scenes from movies and shows and asked them to classify what they saw.Over half (57 percent) of participants weren’t able to decipher which scenes did or did not have non-consensual acts.“Our research shows that despite Australians having the best intentions to either teach or learn about consent – such as in school or as parents – we’re still seeing it being defined incorrectly,” said Consent Labs’ CEO, co-founder and executive director Angelique Wan.“While adding a classification to content may seem simple, it’s a powerful addition and can even be used as an education tool.“From scenes in children’s films where women are kissed while they’re asleep, to rom-coms where men are tied to a bed and their struggle is played for laughs, or scenes that are depicted as romantic, even though the person says ‘no’ again and again.“These acts are designed to add dramatic effect to a scene but the visualization without warning perpetuates and normalizes lack of consent.”While some shows depict very obvious sexual violence, plenty of modern film and TV scenes have hit the cultural conversation without people being able to come to a conclusion around it.The sex scene between Daphne and her Duke in Bridgerton is a great example – the Duke said ‘no’ and Daphne continued.There was outcry, but many still debated what the scene depicted.Another example is in The Devil Wears Prada where main character Andy is drunk in Paris and says ‘no’ to the advances of love interest, Christian Thompson, several times – once even saying she was too drunk to make the decision.
