The grieving well-wisher left a marmalade sandwich inside a plastic bag next to a toy Paddington Bear at the gates of the Palace of Holyroodhouse. The zipper wallet was emotionally labelled 'For later!' with two kisses in handwritten ink, echoing what Paddington Bear would have said to the beloved Queen when they both featured in a special sketch for her Jubilee celebrations in June.
The tear-jerking tribute alludes to the famous sketch where the Queen appeared alongside the well-loved children's character. In the sketch, the longest-reigning monarch joked to the beloved bear that she liked to keep marmalade sandwiches in her handbag and even pulled one out to prove it.
After an onlooker snapped a photo of the emotional tribute, it has since gone viral on social media as grieving royal fans were overwhelmed by the sentimentality of the sandwich. Broadcaster Simon McCoy shared the image on Twitter with
