Baz Luhrmann has arrived at the Oscars with his family!

In preparation for his Oscar nominated role as Elvis, Austin Butler has claimed that he connected to the late singer's ghost, ahead of the star studded awards ceremony happening tonight.

Austin Butler is up for Best Actor at the 2023 Oscars for his portrayal of Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann‘s Elvis. However, he wasn’t guaranteed the role.

The event was hosted by Australian Consul-General Los Angeles Ambassador Jane Duke, Ausfilm, Screen Australia and Australians in Film (AiF) 

Baz Luhrmann says it would be “an amazing historical moment” if Elvis cinematographer Mandy Walker were to triumph at Sunday’s Academy Awards. Elvis director Baz Lurhmann has unveiled the deluxe edition of the movie’s soundtrack, which features a raft of previously unreleased recordings from Austin Butler.“The whole Elvis music team has answered the call from fans with this new Deluxe Edition of the Elvis soundtrack,” said Luhrmann in a statement.“Featuring everything from previously unreleased recordings by Austin Butler to contemporary takes on Elvis’s classics and a fresh mash-up with the Backstreet Boys, the Deluxe album reveals all the complex layers of Austin’s performance, Elvis’s music and those who continue his legacy.”The deluxe edition – which is now available across music streaming platforms – boasts 52 songs in total, 15 more than the standard edition.The previously unreleased recordings by Butler include ‘Blue Suede Shoes’, ‘Heartbreak Hotel’, ‘Crawfish’ (which was recorded live on set), and ‘Are You Lonesome Tonight?’.Additional contemporary takes on Elvis’ songs inlcude G-Dragon‘s cover of ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love’, and Kacey Musgraves‘ version of the same song with Mark Robson.You can view listen to the deluxe edition below.Austin Butler’s performance as Elvis Presley has earned him a Best Actor nomination at this year’s Oscars.

Sarah Ferguson is set to hand out an award at the Oscars as she looks to reinvent her image, according to reports.The Duchess of York looks increasingly likely to be attending the glitzy ceremony in LA on Sunday, thanks in part to her close relationship with Elvis Presley’s family.The 63 year old royal - known by her nickname Fergie - was especially close to Elvis’ daughter Lisa Marie, the singer and songwriter who died in January aged 54. And with the Elvis biopic up for eight awards at this year’s Oscars, it is now thought Fergie will be at the ceremony to give out a gong.

The Oscars are now just a week away and Sunday provided three guild award ceremonies to provide hints at who may take away Hollywood’s most prestigious prizes. The Daniels’ “Everything Everywhere All At Once” continued its winning streak at the ACE Eddie Awards for editing and the WGA Award for screenplay, but they didn’t complete the trifecta at the ASC Awards.

Walker triumphed over Greig Fraser (“The Batman”), Darius Khondji (“Bardo, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths”), Claudio Miranda (“Top Gun: Maverick” and Roger Deakins (“Empire of Light”) in a very competitive race.  Walker‘s win comes as Oscar voting ends on March 7, where she is also nominated. She became only the third woman ever nominated for cinematography for her work on “Elvis.” Rachel Morrison (“Mudbound”) made history as the first female DP to land a nom in 2018, while Ari Wegner was nominated last year for “The Power of the Dog.”

David Heuring When the American Society of Cinematographers hosts its 37th annual awards bash on March 5 at the Beverly Hilton hotel, the lucky people in the room will rub shoulders with an astonishing assemblage of motion imaging artists. Hanging over the proceedings will be the ghost of the generation that invented visual storytelling. Although they’re gone, they’ve left a legacy to their descendants: continue to extend the craft and push the liveliest art into the future while adapting tools and techniques that evolve from year to year. Directors of photography will heed that advice. For them, reaching an audience emotionally has always been the result of intuitive manipulation of tone aided by the skillful application of optical and photographic tools – all in concert with other film arts such as direction, acting and editing. Trends have evolved year to year, culminating lately in large-format cinematography, with its fresh image architecture and distinctive depth of field.

Shirley Kurata’s win comes as “Everything Everywhere All At Once” has garnered momentum heading into the final phase of Oscar voting which begins on March 2. Kurata bested titans in the field going up against Deborah L. Scott (“Avatar: The Way of Water”), history-making Ruth E. Carter (“Black Panther) and Mayes C. Rubeo (“Thor: Love and Thunder”). Catherine Martin won for her work on Baz Luhrmann’s “Elvis.” Building over 90 looks alone for Austin Butler, Martin, a triple-nominee for production design and best picture remains a favorite.
