The 20-year-old defensive midfielder, who has already gained 23 caps for his country, impressed for the Seagulls in their opening day victory against United and was reportedly subject to interest from the club during Ole Gunnar Solskjær's tenure at the club, before the club's hierarchy reportedly opted not to sign the player before he joined Brighton.
He joined the South Coast club from Independiente del Valle in February 2021, spending the first half of last season on loan in Belgium with Beerschot, making 22 appearances before returning to England. He scored in May's 4-0 win for Brighton and impressed to highlight United's decision not to sign the star.
