It can be hard to get the right present for everyone on Christmas, and even when you do there's no guarantee you will be the only one gifting that exact present to a loved one.
With this in mind, there is every possibility your gift could end up in a charity shop not long after December 25. However, some items may be more likely to end up being donated than others.
As reported by the Mirror, the British Heart Foundation shared gifts that might end up in a charity shop as they revealed the most commonly donated items after Christmas.
According to the BHF, the following were among the most commonly donated items to their charity shops after Christmas:
Allison Swaine-Hughes, Retail Director at the British Heart Foundation, said: "We all know what it's like after Christmas. Homes can be filled to the brim with people and gifts.
"Once the festive cheer has settled and we reflect on another joyful Christmas, some gifts can very quickly fall out of favour, gathering dust under the Christmas tree or left abandoned in the cupboard.
"At the BHF, we see an increase in toys, jumpers, accessories, homewares, DVDs and books at this time of year and it's a great opportunity to donate those quality items to the BHF."
While it may seem disappointing that you have not gotten the right present for the recipient, keep in mind that your gift could fund important research through the charity shop. And there's also a good chance that the gift which you bought will find a new home.
Previous research from BHF revealed that books, toys and clothes also rank as some of the presents most likely to be purchased from charity shops.
