‘The Mosquito Coast’ Second Season Gets Official Trailer (TV News Roundup)

Starz is already smitten with its Marquise de Merteuil and the Vicomte de Valmont: The network has renewed Dangerous Liaisons for a second season, ahead of its November debut.

“People don’t change, Allie. They just reveal themselves over time.” The final line of the season premiere of Apple TV+’s “The Mosquito Coast” could be about the show itself, a program that maybe never had the gravity or potential that its first season implied it could.

Katie Reul editor Apple TV+ revealed the official trailer today for Season 2 of “Slow Horses,” the Gary Oldman thriller series that follows a team of British intelligence agents. The second season premieres globally on the streaming service Dec. 2 with the first two episodes, followed by one new episode each week after that for the duration of the six-episode season. And if there’s any confirmation of what fans can anticipate from Season 2, it’s that “more people are going to die,” according to a voice-over in the trailer from returning star Jack Lowden. In the new season of “Slow Horses” (which is adapted from Mick Herron’s sequel novel “Dead Lion”), when exposure of previously-concealed Cold War secrets creates tension between Russia and Britain, the spies are again tasked with protecting society from inevitable catastrophe. Stars from Season 1 have returned for the production of the upcoming release, including Academy-Award winner Oldman as Jackson Lamb, Lowden as River Cartwright, Kristin Scott Thomas as Diana Taverner, Saskia Reeves as Catherine Standish and many more.

Patrick Frater Asia Bureau Chief Australian teen drama series Heartbreak High will return for Season 2 on streaming service Netflix. Produced by Fremantle Australia and NewBe, season 2 of “Heartbreak High” will see a reunion of the previous cast. They have assembled in Sydney, Australia and the nearby Gadigal, Dharug, Dharawal and Ku-ring-gai lands, for pre-production and filming. The show is a reimagination of an iconic piece of Australian television that first played between 1994 and 1996 on Network Ten. A second run played from 1997 to 1999 on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, in a version that was part-funded by the BBC.

Marta Balaga Melissa George’s Margot is looking for a way out in the “twisty” second season of “The Mosquito Coast.”  “This couple has been together for 15 years. They’ve got these two kids [played by Logan Polish and Gabriel Bateman]. But they separated when the children were young, for a very good reason. There was an incident, which we will reveal in the first episode,” she tells Variety at Mipcom. “It’s going to hit the ground running. We are going to say exactly what happened and why this family is on the run.” A Fremantle production for Apple TV+ – based on Paul Theroux’s novel and created by Neil Cross – it follows Allie Fox (Justin Theroux), who uproots his family to find refuge from the U.S. government, cartels and hitmen. Now, they will venture into the Guatemalan jungle to meet an old friend and her community of refugees. 

EJ Panaligan editor Hulu has released the official trailer for “Welcome to Chippendales,” starring Kumail Nanjiani as Somen “Steve” Banjeree, an Indian immigrant who became the unlikely founder of the famous male-stripping empire, and quickly learns how unglamorous the live entertainment world can be. Also starring in the series alongside Nanjiani are Murray Bartlett, Annaleigh Ashford, Dan Stevens, Juliette Lewis with Nicola Peltz appearing in a guest starring role. The show comes from creator Robert Siegel, whose previous credits include “The Founder” and “The Wrestler.” Marvel Studios’ “Fantastic Four” director Matt Shakman directs the series. It is inspired by the events portrayed in the book “Deadly Dance: The Chippendales Murders,” by authors K. Scot Macdonald and Patrick MontesDeOca.

Reacher is one of Amazon’s biggest hits and the show will be returning for a second season on Prime Video.

As the film’s Nov. 25 premiere at the Metrograph in New York City encroaches, signifying the start of its limited theatrical release, Music Box Films dropped a first look at the movie with an official trailer. The film centers around Leonor Reyes (played by Sheila Francisco), a once beloved filmmaker in the Filipino entertainment scene, now burdened by old age, the grief of loss and financial hardship. The plot thickens when Leonor flips through an unfinished script she had written, and soon after, finds herself a character of her own creation after a coma-inducing head injury. Lying in a hospital bed, she envisions herself in the story of her script, bringing fantastical, genre-bending elements into the fictional drama.

Apple TV+ might not have the sizable content library to compete with the likes of Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, and HBO Max, but what the streamer lacks in original films and TV series, it more than makes up for it in quality.

The new trailer opens with Kevin Costner’s John Dutton being sworn in as Governor of Montana, and previews the chaos that immediately follows. “Yellowstone” comes from “Wind River” director Taylor Sheridan, and the show’s cast alongside Costner includes Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly, Wes Bentley, Cole Hauser, Kelsey Asbille, Brecken Merrill, Forrie Smith, Denim Richards, Ian Bohen, Finn Little, Ryan Bingham and Gil Birmingham. Mo Brings Plenty, Wendy Moniz, Jen Landon and Kathryn Kelly have been upped to series regulars. The upcoming season will also feature the return of Josh Lucas as young John Dutton alongside Jacki Weaver, Kylie Rogers and Kyle Red Silverstein with Kai Caster, Lainey Wilson, Lilli Kay and Dawn Olivieri joining the cast.
