On to the day’s news. In today’s newsletter, we’ll be discussing how anti-social behaviour is being handled with FIFA and how ‘New York’ on Tib Street has caused a stir. But first, I’d like to discuss some unusual plans to tackle bed blocking.
The critical and ongoing problems within the social care system have been well documented. But I was quite surprised to read this piece by Nick Statham about a private company asking people to rent out rooms in their home for patients coming out of hospital.
It’s aimed at easing the nationwide shortfall in social care, which often means patients are unable to leave hospital because of a lack of suitable care in available community facilities. In turn this backs up the hospital system, leaving patients using vital bed space when they are healthy enough to leave.
CareRooms.com plans to trial the scheme in Stockport, aiming to set up a network of ‘hosts’ in and around the town. Hosts would be paid a rental income and would be expected to offer tea and sympathy and three meals a day provided by the company.
Hosts would be vetted, interviewed and DBS checked and offered training and support packages. Similar schemes rolled out elsewhere in the country have been dubbed 'Care bnb'.

A new report from The New York Times about the making of the sequel’s unforgettable action scenes includes a detail about Reeves gifting the film’s stunt crew with t-shirts that had the number of deaths each stunt person faced in the movie. For some of the stunt crew, that number was above 20. Why so many death scenes per one stunt person? It’s because “John Wick: Chapter 4” re-used stunt workers in multiple scenes. For the instant classic staircase fight, in which Reeves’ John Wick fights bad guys as he races up the 222 steps leading to the Sacré-Coeur Basilica (only to be pushed back down to the bottom and have to do it all over again), the production used 35 stunt workers, many of whom had repeated deaths in the scene.

The Cure‘s Robert Smith has said he is “sickened” by high Ticketmaster fees for the band’s upcoming North American tour after they vowed to keep prices affordable for fans.Last week the band announced a 30-date tour across the US, which is set to kick off at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans on May 10 before closing out at the Miami-Dade Arena in Florida on July 1.In an email to fans, Smith said they would keep ticket prices reasonable, writing: “The Cure have agreed all ticket prices, and apart from a few Hollywood Bowl charity seats, there will be no ‘platinum’ or ‘dynamically priced’ tickets on this tour.”The band also said that tickets would not be “transferable” to minimise “resale and keep prices at face value”.
