Manchester United's pre-season tour to the United States of America can be the ideal opportunity for Donny van de Beek to stake his claim for a place in Erik ten Hag's first-team squad next season.
Van de Beek is out for the remainder of the campaign after suffering a significant knee injury during a match against Bournemouth in January. Ten Hag is confident the midfielder will be back in time to participate in pre-season while the Dutchman shared an encouraging update on his rehabilitation.
He has made only 10 appearances come this season having been reunited with his former Ajax coach Ten Hag in the summer. Van de Beek played more than 100 times under the current United manager while they were together in their native Netherlands.

The 25-year-old was also a regular during Ten Hag's first United pre-season, featuring in all six matches, and also playing a part during one of two friendlies following the World Cup late last year. With the European Championships on the horizon in 2024, the 19-cap Netherlands international will be targeting a recall from the returning Ronald Koeman, under whom he was a regular, after falling out of favour under Frank de Boer.
Pre-season is perhaps more pivotal for Van de Beek than anyone else at United, as it could decide the player's immediate future. He is under contract at Old Trafford for a further two years, with the option of an extra 12 months, and United have yet to see the best of him.
