‘The Harder They Fall’ And ‘Insecure’ Lead 53rd Annual NAACP Image Awards Nominations

The nominees for the 53rd NAACP Image Awards have been officially released.
The names were announced on Jan. 18 in a virtual event on the NAACP’s official Instagram account, hosted by actress and musician Kyla Pratt, “Black-ish” actor Marcus Scribner and singer-songwriter Tinashe.
Netflix leads the nominations in a number of categories, including Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture and Outstanding International Motion Picture, with its Western “The Harder They Fall” landing 12 nominations. It was followed by the dramedy “Insecure” which landed 12 nominations across the board in the TV and streaming categories. In the music categories, H.E.R. dominates the nominations for her work on her new album Back of My Mind.
Lakeith Stanfield landed nominations in both best leading and supporting actor categories for his roles in “Judas and the Black Messiah” and “The Harder They Fall”.

The actor is up against stiff competition in the Outstanding Actor category, with the other nominees Denzel Washington, Jonathan Majors, Mahershala Ali and Will Smith.
Due to continued safety precautions over the COVID-19 pandemic, the 53rd NAACP Image Awards will not have an in-person audience.
