Shirlie found fame in the 1980s with the bands Wham! and Pepsi & Shirlie. Martin on the other hand is known as the bassist in Spandau Ballet and for his role as Steve Owen in Eastenders. The pair have been married since 1988 and they have a daughter Harley Moon and a son Roman, who's well known for presenting Capital FM's breakfast show.
The show began with Chris highlighting that the pair will be celebrating 40 years of marriage next year. The hosts then shared the fact that Martin fell in love with Shirlie on the music chart show Top of the Pops, while she was performing Young Guns with Wham!. Martin gave more context and said: "It was a Thursday night and I was at my mum and dad's because I hadn't moved out at that point.
I was watching Top of the Pops and Wham! came on, it was the first time they'd ever been on. I absolutely fell in love with Shirlie through the television screen. I was completely infatuated with her.
"As if their relationship wasn't sweet enough already, Shirlie explained she fell in love with Martin when she saw him on the cover of the Smash Hits music magazine. The celebrity couple also shared another moment that confirmed their love for each other. Martin recalled the morning after they spent their first night together, when Shirlie had conjunctivitis and couldn't see.
