BFFs Natasha Lyonne and Melanie Lynskey Reunite to Discuss the ‘90s, ‘Biggest Beefs’ With the World and Queer Rights

Old friends Natasha Lyonne and Melanie Lynskey have lots to reminisce about, having first forged a bond during the filming of the 1999 Kiss-inspired movie “Detroit Rock City.” But their most memorable on-screen pairing was in another movie that premiered that year — director Jamie Babbit’s queer cult classic “But I’m a Cheerleader.” A quarter century into their friendship, Lynskey and Lyonne appreciate that both of their careers are peaking now that they’re in their 40s. On Showtime’s “Yellowjackets,” Lynskey plays Shauna, a reckless New Jersey housewife traumatized by her experiences in the wilderness as a teenager. In the Peacock howdunit “Poker Face,” Lyonne portrays human lie-detector Charlie Cale, who solves crimes as she traverses the country while on the run.

‘Milli Vanilli’ Review: The Saga of the Infamous Pop Duo, Now Seen From the Inside, Becomes a Captivating and Moving Documentary

Owen Gleiberman Chief Film Critic It’s one of the inside-out realities of our era that scandal, if you give it enough time, turns into myth. So it is with the story of Milli Vanilli, the German-French R&B pop duo of the late ’80s and early ’90s who, having sold close to 50 million records, were revealed to be a fake: a pair of lip-syncing Euro pretty boys who hadn’t sung a note on any of their hits or at any of their concerts. Once they’d been unmasked, the rise and fall of Milli Vanilli played out on two levels. The first was the spectacular embarrassing bad joke of it all — though it was never just a joke, since Milli Vanilli’s fans felt a tremendous sense of anger and betrayal at having been fooled. (The joke was on them.) The second level recognized a crucial and obvious truth: that the scandal wasn’t only about Rob Pilatus and Fabrice Morvan, with their teenybop dreads and break-lite dance moves, getting up onstage and singing to prerecorded tracks, as if it had all been their idea. No, the brazen fakery of Milli Vanilli echoed, or at least rhymed with, various other kinds of fakery that were embedded in the music industry (the packaging of boy bands, the use of lip-syncing by established stars). This was certainly more extreme, and worthy of being called on the carpet for, but it wasn’t a stand-alone sin.

Lea Michele Performing With The Cast of 'Funny Girl' at Tony Awards Despite Ineligibility Status

Lea Michele has enjoyed monumental success since formally joining the cast of the Broadway hit Funny Girlin September 2022.But while she's earned praise for deftly portraying the coveted role of the beloved character Fanny Brice, there's a simple reason why she's not eligible for a Tony Award. According to the Tony Awards' rules and regulations under eligibility requirements, «in order to be eligible, an actor or actress must perform in the role on the production's opening night and must perform in the minimum number of performances to which the producer of such production must invite and make tickets available to Tony voters as required by Rule 2(a)vi).»And therein lies the issue — the original actress who performed on opening night was Beanie Feldstein, who left in the wake of the show being at risk of closing due to poor reviews and lackluster ticket sales. That all changed after Michele formally replaced Feldstein in September.Michele and the cast of are still set to take the stage during Sunday night's ceremony as one of the evening's running list of performers.

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar are speaking out.The couple — who famously introduced the world to their large family in the TLC series — published a statement to their website on Thursday decrying Prime Video's forthcoming four-part docuseries «The recent 'documentary' that talks about our family is sad because in it we see the media and those with ill intentions hurting people we love,» the statement shared. «Like other families, ours too has experienced the joys and heartbreaks of life, just in a very public format.»«This 'documentary' paints so much and so many in a derogatory and sensationalized way because sadly that’s the direction of entertainment these days,» the statement continued. The documentary is set to examine, in part, the experiences of some of the Duggar children after being raised following the ultra-conservative lifestyle rules of disgraced pastor Bill Gothard and the Institute in Basic Life Principles, or IBLP.  Among those interviewed was Jill Duggar Dillard, the couple's second-oldest daughter, who spoke out about her difficult experiences.«We have always believed that the best chance to repair damaged relationships, or to reconcile differences, is through love in a private setting,»Jim Bob and Michelle's statement continued.
