'That’s a lie!' - Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher embroiled in Twitter argument over Man United

Gary Neville has been involved in yet another Twitter debate with Jamie Carragher as Manchester United were embarrassed by Brentford on Saturday evening.

United fell to their second defeat of the new Premier League campaign with one of the worst showings in the club's recent history. Erik ten Hag's side went behind early on after Josh Dasilva's shot somehow squirmed under the body of David de Gea, before goals from Mathias Jensen, Ben Mee and Bryan Mbuemo put the hosts 4-0 up at the break.

Neville and Carragher are no strangers to the occasional heated debate and they didn't disappoint fans as they argued about the plight of United on social media. The former United captain also found himself arguing with Jamie Redknapp on Sky Sports shortly after the full-time whistle.

Before the game, Neville tweeted: "Right I’m a couple of hours from Brentford. What we thinking?" Carragher responded by writing: "I’m thinking you will call for the Glazers to sell the club, after not saying it once while they paid you."

The Tweet sparked a huge flurry of activity on social media before Neville responded: "Whilst we were battering your lot and winning league title after league title."

Carragher replied: "Because of SAF (Sir Alex Ferguson), so if you get another top manager the Glazers are fine to stay! You still getting paid as an ambassador?"

Neville would then post a screenshot of a previous article where Carragher blamed Liverpool's former owners, Tom Hicks and George Gillett, for his club's failings. Neville asked Carragher: "This you mate?".

He also addressed Carragher's claim that he'd been paid by the club, stating: "That’s a lie! Not been paid a penny
