Terror arrest after woman stabbed outside leisure centre

Police have arrested a man on suspicion of terrorism offences after a woman was stabbed outside a leisure centre. The woman was seriously hurt following the incident in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, on Thursday night.
She remains in hospital and is in a stable condition. Officers have arrested a 29-year-old man on suspicion of terrorism offences.
He has been held on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of terrorism, as well as on suspicion of preparing acts of terrorism. The man was previously arrested in suspicion of attempted murder after the incident, however, he was re-arrested on Friday under the Terrorism Act, Gloucestershire Constabulary said. He currently in custody and being questioned by officers from Counter Terrorism Policing.

Assistant Chief Constable Richard Ocone, of Gloucestershire Constabulary, said the force believes the attack was an 'isolated' incident. "I would like to reassure those living locally or visiting the county that we believe this was an isolated incident and we are not aware of any wider threat to members of the public," he said.
"We are working closely with our partners in Counter Terrorism Policing. We appreciate that an incident of this nature may be concerning and we would encourage people to contact us via 101 with any additional information they may have about the incident."
