‘Ted Lasso Season 2’ Trailer: AppleTV+’s Feel-Good, Award-Winning Comedy Returns In July

The Hollywood Critics Association is out with the nominees for its inaugural HCA TV Awards. Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso scored a leading eight noms overall, followed by Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale with seven. NBC network/platform bragging rights with 30 nominations, edging HBO (29) and Netflix (28).

While film is getting an expected bump this month with an increasing number of titles debuting in theaters, television has remained relatively consistent. We still have two episodes left of “Loki” left to spark conversation and the nominations for the 2021 Emmys are right around the corner, due to be announced on July 13.

Ted Lasso became the feelgood hit of the summer last year with Jason Sudekis even persuading a group of hardened British football fans to fall in love with the Apple TV+ original comedy. The series was also a hit in Hollywood, picking up a slew of awards including Sudekis winning best actor at the Golden Globes. It also won a Peabody Award this week.

The Peabody Awards kicked off five days, yes, five days of winners announcements on Monday, and today’s big winners were “Ted Lasso,” “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and the Oscar-nominated documentary, “Time.” These honors were presented virtually by Will Ferrell, Steve Carell and D.L. Hugley, respectively.

Most fans know that Jason Sudeikis‘s Ted Lasso series was inspired by a series of commercials.

It’s almost hard to imagine Jason Sudeikis starring in “Ted Lasso” next to any other ensemble of actors. From Hannah Waddingham‘s brilliant portrayal of the fictional AFC Richmond football club owner Rebecca Welton to Juno Temple‘s scene-stealing Keely Jones or Nick Mohammad as the smarter than he looks kit man (that’s an equipment manager for us Yanks), the Apple TV+ series is something of a casting marvel.
