NSW MP Gareth Ward Charged Over Historic Sexual Abuse Of Man, Teen

Former Liberal minister and Independent NSW member of Parliament Gareth Ward (40) was on Tuesday charged over alleged historic allegations of sexual abuse of a man and a teenage boy. Ward, member for Kiama, attended Oak Flats Police Station on Tuesday. The NSW police charged him “with three counts of assault with act of indecency, and one count each of sexual intercourse without consent and common assault”.The police case is that Ward allegedly indecently assaulted a 17-year-old teenage boy at Meroo Meadow in February 2013, and sexually abused a 27-year-old man in Sydney in September 2015.NSW MP Gareth Ward was charged on March 22, 2022, with historic sexual abuse of a man and a teenage boy.

A 48-year-old man, accused of leading the terrorist group ‘Shura’, allegedly plotted to carry out attacks on Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras and other places, a NSW court heard this week. Sydneysider resident Hamdi Alqudsi is facing trial after being charged with heading a terrorist organisation, which was preparing to carry out terror attacks. In their opening statement before the jury, the prosecution detailed the evidence against Alqudsi, who has claimed he is “innocent”. According to the prosecution, Alqudsi formed Shura in 2013 and recruited people in Australia to travel to Syria to fight against the commonwealth. When the Australian Federal Police and NSW police foiled the plan, the group veered to planning domestic terror attacks.Crown prosecutor Patricia McDonald SC told the jury that there were plans to attack a naval base in Sydney, the Israeli embassy, courthouses and the Mardi Gras, reported News.com.au.  The prosecution said that the attack on Mardi Gras was suggested by the terror group’s contact in Syria, Mohammad Ali Baryalei in September 2014.

Bondi Memorial To Victims Of Sydney’s Anti-Gay, Anti-Trans Killings To Be Unveiled

A public launch is being held this Saturday, June 4, 2022, for the Bondi memorial dedicated to victims and survivors of the spate of homophobic and transphobic violence that occurred from the 1970s to 1990s in Sydney and New South Wales.Located in Marks Park in Tamarama, the memorial titled ‘Rise’ was installed through a collaboration with LGBTQ health organisation ACON, Urban Art Projects (UAP) Design Studio and Waverley Council.The memorial is being launched to the community in a commemorative event at Marks Park. In attendance at the event will be representatives from organisations involved, as well as political figures and special guests. Waverley Mayor Paula Masselos said in a statement to Star Observerthat the memorial is “dedicated to the recognition of the recent history of gay and transphobic hate crimes that occurred in Bondi and along the east coast of Australia.”Designed by John Nicholson and UAP, the memorial’s composition is embedded with meaning, as the layers mirror the nearby cliffs but appear instead to be moving towards the horizon. “Each of its six sculpted stone layers represents one of the six bands in the pride flag” Masselos said. “The Bondi Memorial in the public domain provides an opportunity for healing by making space for recognition and confrontation of the past, giving light to changing attitudes, and inviting ongoing reflection.”Some of the victims of gay hate crimes in Sydney.The location of the monument is recognised as a place where a significant number of hate crimes occurred throughout the 1970s to 1990s.
