Similarly to television, it would seem that with theaters slowly beginning to reopen; the movie release schedule is picking up speed in May. Just in time for what typically would be the start of the blockbuster season, this spring features a greater, eclectic list of films to choose from and, luckily for those still unwilling to go to a theater just yet, plenty of at-home viewing possibilities.

Two new gay-themed films are both available through streaming services right now, one a remake of an iconic gay classic and the other a chilling suspense thriller.

Horror films have always been great carriers for social commentary. The tropes, the carnage, the acceptance that characters on screen are going to put themselves in risky situations—it all allows for the message to go down easy.

Saw spin-off Spiral and various other releases from Lionsgate have been delayed until 2021 due to the coronavirus outbreak. Cinemas around the world continue to be closed which means that there isn’t anywhere for these to open currently, hence the rejig of the distributor’s schedule.

Lionsgate has joined the parade of releases pulled from theatrical release due to the coronavirus pandemic, pulling the Chris Rock-Samuel L. Jackson “Saw” reboot, Janelle Monae’s “Antebellum” and Sarah Paulson’s “Run.”
