If Nicole Kidman, a massive movie star who pivoted to TV and became known as the “Queen of Peak TV,” perhaps someone like Ewan McGregor is quickly becoming her counterpart. McGregor, like Kidman, enjoyed much success on screen as a leading man, but as the mid-sized drama seemingly vanished in cinemas and shifted towards television, actors like the two of them, with an inclination for human stories, have pivoted right alongside the trend.

Paramount+, and will be available to stream on the platform later this year. “With the most powerful clients in Europe, ‘The Donovans’ will see family fortunes and reputations at risk, odd alliances unfold, and betrayal around every corner,” the official plot synopsis reads.

Having just completed a TV spin-off of his own movie, Netflix’s “The Gentlemen” series based on the 2019 film of the same name (read our review here), filmmaker Guy Ritchie is going back to a similar well. This time, it’s TV to TV: Paramount+, Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios & 101 Studios announced that Ritchie will direct and executive produce “The Donovans,” a new series that will be loosely based on Showtime’s popular “Ray Donovan” show starring Liev Schreiber, and Irish award-winning screenwriter, producer, and novelist Ronan Bennett will pen all ten episodes of this new series.

It’s Me, Margaret” and “Oppenheimer” and the runaway success of “the Curse” on Showtime, Safdie is one to watch in 2024 and beyond.

With a show like “Yellowjackets,” where the mysteries are everything, you can’t reveal too much too soon. Yes, Marvel Studios really kickstarted this idea of a “cinematic universe” more than a decade ago, but some of the most popular versions of this idea have sprung up in various other genres. Perhaps the most recent example is the absolute behemoth that is “Yellowstone,” which has been nothing but a huge success for Paramount and its streaming service, Paramount+, and spawned about a half-dozen spinoffs that are either already released or in the pipeline.

I guess when you have George Clooney saying he’ll direct a new prestige drama series for you, it’s kind of hard to pass up. At least, in the case of Showtime, which just gave a straight-to-series order for a season of “The Department,” directed by the aforementioned Clooney.
