this epic power ballad, which hit No. 1 in 1983, the Welsh belter nailed the galactic pain of when the heart goes totally dark.If you don’t have some Ziggy Stardust up in your eclipse mix, then really, we can’t help you. This jazz- and falsetto-kissed bliss from “Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic” — the late, great Purple One’s underappreciated 1999 album — is a cosmic chill-out.Of course, Harrison has kept us basking in the eternal glow of “Here Comes the Sun,” off The Beatles’ 1969 classic “Abbey Road.” But 10 years later, he flipped the script with this ethereal dreaminess from his 1979 self-titled album.Going from Policeman to jazzman in his early solo years, Sting worked all of his tantric sexiness on this moonlit serenade from 1987’s “…Nothing Like the Sun.”The “Uptown Funk”-ster breaks out his best street-corner croon on this swoonworthy tune — from “Doo-Wops & Hooligans,” his 2010 debut album — that is all the starry-eyed feels. The sunshine-pop quartet radiate peace, love and celestial on this song, which as part of a chart-topping medley with “Aquarius” won them the Record of the Year Grammy in 1970.On his breakout 1971 hit, Brother Bill captures the pitch blackness — and bleakness — when both his house and heart turn cold “anytime she goes away.”Chris Cornell — one of rock’s all-time greatest voices — left a black hole in the music world when he died in 2017.

Naomi Watts says she will never get over her father’s tragic death

Naomi Watts has said she will never get over the tragic death of her father.Peter Watts, who was a sound engineer for Pink Floyd, died of an apparent heroin overdose at the age of 31 when Naomi was seven years old.“The grief never goes away but playing [different roles in movies] you find news ways of understanding it,” the actress told Marie Claire Australia.“Still to this day as a 55-year-old woman I wish I’d witnessed what it was like to have a father to speak to at various times in my life. I wish that he’d been there to pat me on the back when I’ve had successful moments or complex moments that I’ve been troubled by.”Peter and Naomi’s costume designer mother Myfanwy, known as Miv, divorced when she was four years old.The actress previously explained how Pink Floyd helped Miv financially to “get things underway” after Peter’s death, but she and her mother still struggled.Watts has previously spoken about dealing with grief decades after losing her father, telling Vogue Australia in 2021: “Having grown up losing my dad at a very early age, I think that’s a story I know well; it’s still sorting itself out at the ripe age of 52.’“Through that, you lose a part of yourself… you feel like you’re not fully formed in a way,” she added.Myfanwy also spoke about coping with the loss of her ex-husband, telling the Daily Mail Australia: “It left scars.

Court in Chile rejects ban on Roger Waters performing over claims of antisemitism

Roger Waters’ upcoming concerts in the country can go ahead, despite attempts to block them over accusations of antisemitism. The former Pink Floyd bassist, who has repeatedly insisted he is not an antisemite, is set to play at the Estadio Monumental in Santiago on November 25 and 26, as part of his This Is Not A Drill Tour. But the Representative Committee of Jewish Entities in Chile had sought to stop the shows from taking place, citing what they describe as Waters’ “history of incitement to antisemitic hatred”.However, as reported by Cooperativa, the bid has been dismissed by Santiago’s Court of Appeals, who ruled that “no facts have been mentioned that could constitute a violation of the constitutional guarantees”.In response to the attempt to block the concerts, a group of over 60 Chilean artists wrote a letter to the country’s Court of Appeals, imploring them to allow the shows to go ahead.“The mentioned action, beyond its rhetorical foundation, seeks to censor in advance the criticism of the killing of children, bombings of refugee camps, hospitals, the killing of United Nations officials, among other crimes committed by the government led by the far-right Benjamin Netanyahu,” they wrote. In April, Waters won a legal battle to play a concert in Frankfurt after it was initially cancelled over claims of antisemitism. He had been scheduled to play at the publicly owned Festhalle on May 28, but Frankfurt City Council called off the performance over the musician’s views on Israel.

Roger Waters has said he wonders if the “fishy” attacks perpetrated by Hamas on October 7 could have been a “false flag operation”.The Pink Floyd co-founder has once again faced accusations of anti-Semitism for claiming the massacre, which killed 1,400 Israelis last month, was “thrown out of all proportion” and questioned the origins of the attack. In an interview with journalist Glenn Greenwald, Waters expresses doubt about the death toll and Hamas’ role in the attack. When asked if the attack could be “justified”, he said: “We don’t know what they [Hamas] did do” during the invasion.“Was it justified for them to resist the occupation? Yeah,” he said.

David Gilmour has continued his long running feud with former Pink Floyd bandmate, Roger Waters, by sharing a documentary detailing instances of alleged anti-Semitism from the latter.Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Gilmour retweeted a post about a documentary titled The Dark Side Of Roger Waters, originally published by the Campaign Against Antisemitism, which produced the project.Rogers has previously spoken out against the documentary with a post to his official website, dismissing the project as “a flimsy, unapologetic piece of propaganda”. He also claimed that it “indiscriminately mixes things I’m alleged to have said or done at different times and in different contexts, in an effort to portray me as an antisemite, without any foundation in fact”.The clip shared by Gilmour sees two of Waters’ former collaborators recall their experiences working with the musician, and the instances where they reportedly saw him make anti-Semitic comments. The first of which was from Waters’ former saxophonist Nortber Statchel, who told BBC journalist John Ware about a time when the Pink Floyd musician allegedly imitated a stereotypically poor Polish woman as a reference to his Jewish ancestors.

Pink Floyd’s ‘Another Brick In The Wall’ reconstructed from person’s brain activity

Pink Floyd‘s classic track ‘Another Brick in the Wall, Part 1’ by decoding the brain signals of a person listening to it.As The Independent reports, a team from the University Of California, Berkeley discovered how to reconstruct the 1979 song after placing electrodes on the brains of patients and playing the music as they underwent epilepsy surgery.Their brain activity was then analysed, which allowed the neuroscientists to reproduce the track’s rhythm and pick out recognisable lines such as “All in all it’s just another brick in the wall”.It marks the first-ever time that a recognisable song has been reconstructed from brain recordings. Previously, scientists have used similar brain-reading techniques to try and decipher speech from thoughts.“It’s a wonderful result,” said Robert Knight, a neurologist and UC Berkeley professor of psychology at the Helen Wills Neuroscience Institute, who conducted the new research.“One of the things for me about music is it has prosody and emotional content.

They later described him as “one of the world’s most widely-known anti-Semites”.According to Israeli newspaper Haaretz, the cancellation notice cited Waters’ boycott of Israel – also known as the BDS campaign – as well as the musician’s talks with Hamas-affiliated media, comparisons of Israel to apartheid South Africa and what many see as anti-Semitic imagery at shows. It also referenced the sensitivity surrounding the venue, which was used as a detention centre for some 3000 Jewish people who were then deported to concentration camps in 1938.Now, however, Waters has suggested he’s “coming anyway” despite the cancellation.

John Robb on his massive new goth book: “It’s simple: no Bowie, no scene”

Membranes frontman and journalist John Robb has spoken to NME about his new book detailing the origins and rise of goth. The monolithic book has taken 10 years to write and looks at artists including Bauhaus, Nick Cave and The Cure and their place in building one of music’s most important scenes.“I’ve read a lot of books about the post-punk period and goth is always just dismissively kicked away,” Robb told NME. “It’s always really annoyed me that people have been quite sniffy about bands like Bauhaus or Killing Joke, despite them being some of the best art rock bands this country has produced. They were often looked down upon, all because they had a dark side and dressed up a bit.”Robb said that he hopes his book will do for goth what Jon Savage’s book, England’s Dreaming, did for punk in getting people to take it more seriously.
