Following the spectacular box-office failure of “Madame Web,” a film that was a punchline twice at the Oscars last night, Sony’s Spider-Man universe continues to be ridiculed in the media outside the Marvel-produced films with Tom Holland and the successful ‘Spider-Verse’ movies. “Morbius,” starring Jared Leto, was another dud at the box office.

With the Oscar nominations coming soon enough, you know it’s time for the Razzie Awards to announce the (un)lucky nominees for 2023. Most years, you can pretty much guess which films will get the (dis)honor of being picked on by the Razzies.

Sony’s “Morbius” is finally in theaters and while people are endlessly sharing their hot takes of the poorly-reviewed superhero film (including our review) and ‘Spider-Man’ spin-off, what might be even more interesting is all the behind-the-scenes shenanigans of Jared Leto, who as one person joked on Twitter today, might be the Daniel Day-Lewis of bad movies. Uproxx recently spoke with director Daniel Espinosa about the film —and while he couldn’t come up with a good answer when pressed about what Sony’s plans for the movie were and what they changed—what’s even more interesting is some of the rumors they heard.

You’re probably thinking, what exactly is Sony’s strategy with their Spider-Verse? After all, unlike Marvel or DC, or most other film studios, all their spin-offs are generally centered around super villains or anti-heroes. Well, much of that is because Sony’s Spider-verse is much more limited.

2022 is upon us, but here’s some news that will bring you back to the glory days of 2020 and 2021—Sony has delayed the theatrical release of the ‘Spider-Man’ spinoff film, “Morbius.” Yep, that’s right, just a matter of days before the release of the Jared Leto-starring “Morbius,” the studio has decided to delay the film until the spring.
