YG Entertainment denies spending US$30million on BLACKPINK contracts

YG Entertainment has refuted reports that it spent US$30million on BLACKPINK‘s contract renewals.According to a business report released by the company on March 22, YG Entertainment had stated a KRW41.2billion (about US$30million) sum for intangible assets last year.Per Korea JoongAng Daily, this is an accounting practice commonly used by music labels in South Korea when funds are needed for contract renewals. Of note, last year YG Entertainment had secured the contract renewal of K-pop girl group BLACKPINK for group activities, following a months-long negotiation process.However, YG Entertainment has since denied that all the funds were used for that purpose, in a statement to Korea JoongAng Daily. “There were various other contract renewals as well as new contracts formed over various intellectual property,” a YG Entertainment spokesperson said.The label added that it “cannot disclose the contract details”, but noted that “the amount in question cannot be considered exclusive to BLACKPINK’s contract extension”.In the same report, Korea JoongAng Daily also noted that YG Entertainment said that it is “planning” for group activities from BLACKPINK.

Last Evaluation, an online series by YG Entertainment that will decide the line-up of new K-pop group BABYMONSTER, has been released.The episode picks up where the previous one left off, and opens with the performance of Rosé‘s solo song ‘Gone’, as covered by trainees Ahyeon, Ruka and Pharita.Their version of the track was positively received by the judges, which included WINNER members Hoony and Yoon, AKMU‘s Lee Su-hyun and YG Entertainment founder Yang Hyun-suk.Notably, Hoony gave special mention to Pharita, who said that her voice gave him “goosebumps”. Meanwhile, Lee complimented Ahyeon’s harmonisation skills: “It got me thinking that she’s capable of being part of a group”.Elsewhere in the episode, the second group from BABYMONSTER – comprising Haram, Asa, Chiquita and Rora – were assigned ‘Stay’ by BLACKPINK to perform.The quartet are later joined by Lee in the practice room as they rehearse their upcoming performance.

YG Entertainment to take legal action against people leaking “private” photos of BLACKPINK’s Jennie

YG Entertainment has announced that it will be taking legal action against people “illegally” distributing BLACKPINK member Jennie’s “private” photos.In a statement issued to the press earlier today (October 3), the girl group’s management agency announced that it has enlisted the help of police to investigate those responsible for circulating “private” photos of Jennie that have been the subject of recent tabloid coverage.“We have refrained from mentioning the matter or making an official statement in order to minimize any further damage,” the agency’s statement read, per Korea JoongAng Daily. “However, there have been indiscriminate rumours, criticism, personal attacks, sexual harassment and violations of personal life sparked by those private photographs.”The statement claims that the agency has already taken legal action against online users who have made “malicious posts, or those which repeatedly upload unconfirmed claims,” and is currently looking into lodging additional penalties for other damages caused by the leak.“The photos [of Jennie] distributed online were made public illegally, without Jennie’s consent.

BLACKPINK confirm ‘Born Pink’ world tour

BLACKPINK have announced details of their ‘Born Pink’ world tour, which kicks off later this year.The global run of shows kicks off with two nights in Seoul on October 16 and 17 before heading to North America for a series of concerts.The ‘Born Pink’ world tour will then see Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa visit Europe to finish off 2022, with the group also scheduled to play the likes of Australia, Singapore and Thailand in 2023.
