J Dilla documentary is set to be released via the streaming platforms Hulu and TV network FX.The prolific producer is credited for changing the sound of hip-hop, proving influential to many – including the likes of Kanye West – with unique lo-fi style of beat-making and drum programming.A new documentary, called The Legacy of J Dilla, will be a part of The New York Times Presents series, produced with FX, and is described as “an intimate portrait” of Dilla’s life and legacy.‘The Legacy of J Dilla’ original documentary is coming to FX / Hulu on April 7th, courtesy of the New York Times. J Dilla, born James Yancey, died on February 10, 2006, three days after his 32nd birthday. While he was a successful rapper, songwriter and producer, J Dilla’s net worth was affected by his illness. 

Questlove is set to executive produce a new documentary about the legendary J Dilla.The new film, titled Dilla Time, will see the Roots drummer working alongside the influential late artist’s estate for a project described as “part biography, part musicology, and part musical meditation”.Questlove said: “Explaining musical genius is my mission. To be able to tell the world about the musician that had the most influence on me is a dream come true.

A new documentary on the legendary Detroit producer and rapper J Dilla is in the works from executive producer Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson, drummer for The Roots and director of the Oscar-winning Summer of Soul. The film is based on the book Dilla Time: The Life and Afterlife of J Dilla, The Hip-Hop Producer Who Reinvented Rhythm by Dan Charnas. Questlove will team up once more alongside Joseph Patel, his co-producer on Summer of Soul, with a producing team of Zarah Zolhman, Shawn Gee, Tariq Trotter, Rodrigo Bascuñán, Darby Wheeler, and Anupa Mistry (both Patel and Mistry are former employees of The FADER).

J Dilla's seminal album Welcome 2 Detroit dropped in 2001, and on February 5 the project gets a massive 20th anniversary reissue treatment. The 12-vinyl box comes with outtakes, alternative mixes, a whole-ass book about the album's creation, and two new remixes.

To mark the 20th anniversary of J Dilla's 2001 solo debut Welcome 2 Detroit, the album is getting the deluxe box set treatment in 2021. Arriving February 5, the 7" vinyl set will include a remastered version of the album alongside instrumentals, demos, outtakes, and a book chronicling the making of the project.
