Following her recent Oscar-nominated role in Bradley Cooper’s dramatic biopic “Maestro,” actress Carey Mulligan is switching it up and returning to the world of comedy. Variety reports that Universal’s Focus Features has acquired the new Mulligan film “The Ballad of Wallis Island,” formerly known as “One For The Money.” The pic hails from the director James Griffiths (“Cuban Fury”) and is produced by veteran British comedian Steve Coogan via Baby Cow Productions with a supporting cast that includes Sian Clifford (“Fleabag”) and Akemnji Ndifornyen (“Famalam”).

“Some people would rather crash than slow down.” So goes the zinger in the latest trailer for Jeff Nichols‘ “The Bikeriders,” which finally hits theaters this summer. Initially slated by Focus Featuers for a December 1, 2023, theatrical release, the SAG-AFTRA strike forced the distributor to push the film to 2024.

Now that Steven Soderbergh’s three-year overall deal with HBO is over, he’s free to work with any studio he chooses. And the filmmaker is doing just that, in his usual workaholic way, as Deadline reports that Focus Features outbid everyone for “Black Dog,” Soderbergh’s upcoming spy thriller with Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender.

Well, it’s official: “Industry” star Marisa Abela plays Amy Winehouse in Sam Taylor-Johnson‘s upcoming biopic “Back To Black.” The long-gestating project finally enters production on January 16 in London. While it was always his ambition to be a filmmaker, twenty, thirty years ago, director Todd Field was known as an actor, working with Penelope Spheeris, Nicole Holofcener, Jan de Bont, and even Stanley Kubrick in “Eyes Wide Shut” (1999). That quickly changed in 2001; Field’s directorial debut, “In The Bedroom,” would earn five Academy Award nominations, including two for Field for Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay.

However, there’s a shake-up regarding who will star in the upcoming film, with Anya Taylor-Joy no longer attached.

Well, even though he’s only ever made two films, “In The Bedroom” and “Little Children,” a similar feature for director Todd Field could easily be made.

There have been countless documentaries and TV specials about World War II and the rise of the Nazis during that era. We’ve seen archival footage, interviews with soldiers, discussions with Holocaust survivors, and just hours upon hours of historians giving the facts that led to one of the worst times in human history.
