While the Marvel Studios narrative generally goes: an unimpeachable run at the box-office and with critics until 2023’s flop “The Marvels,” a closer inspection of the whole story arguably shows chinks starting to show in the armor during the pandemic. While it’s unfair to compare the box office of pandemic-era movies like “Shang Chi” and “Black Widow” to their non-pandemic counterparts, one film that seemed to take it in the teeth, regardless, was Chloe Zhao’s “Eternals” (read our review here).

Hulu’s acclaimed crime-comedy “Only Murders In The Building” is returning for a fourth season, and the group of actors they assemble is becoming quite the collection of comedians. A new casting report from Variety has revealed that actor Kumail Nanjiani (“The Big Sick”) has nabbed a supporting role in the latest season of the series, which stars Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, and Martin Short.

When you look at the wave of negative press that has followed Marvel Studios recently, it can largely be traced back to the release of “Eternals.” At the time, no one ever imagined a film from Marvel Studios would be the victim of terrible reviews and relatively low box office (though $402 million worldwide is still better than “The Marvels”). And apparently, the backlash “Eternals” received from critics really affected members of the cast, including Kumail Nanjiani.

With Marvel Studios having an incredibly rough 2023, you have to wonder if any of the previous films will get a bit of a reconsideration. The one that springs to mind most is “Eternals.” At the time, there were people who swore “Eternals” was the worst thing Marvel had ever produced.
