Watch Big Thief perform unreleased track ‘Happiness’ on ‘Tiny Desk’

Big Thief performed an unreleased song called ‘Happiness’ during their recent appearance on NPR’s ‘Tiny Desk (Home) Concert’ – watch below. The Brooklyn band played a four-song set for the long-running video series, including ‘Change’, ‘Dried Roses’ and ‘Certainty’ from their fifth studio album, this year’s ‘Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You’.Big Thief concluded the short gig by treating viewers to ‘Happiness’, a track that was first aired during the group’s 2020 European headline tour (via Setlist.FM).Filmed by Adam Gundersheimer and Vanessa Haddad, the latest ‘Tiny Desk (Home) Concert’ video sees Big Thief performing in a cosy attic room in a house in Connecticut.Bob Boilen, host and creator of NPR’s ‘Tiny Desk’, said: “What we see in this ‘Tiny Desk (Home) Concert’ is playfulness substituting for the intensity that I normally find in Big Thief on a big stage.“There’s a bit of a ‘hold on to your hat’ feel here, with players watching each other for a possible surprise. Maybe it’s James Krivchenia’s banjo percussion, the galloping rhythm on ‘Certainty’ or how the four musicians sing aloud on a chorus; it is so much fun to see it all unfold.”Big Thief returned to the UK last month to play a show at Glastonbury 2022.

Big Thief cancel upcoming shows in Israel

Big Thief have pulled out of two upcoming live shows in Israel and issued an apology for the “recklessness and naivete” of a statement they had previously shared defending the booking. Backlash to Big Thief's decision to play two shows in Tel Aviv in July began over the weekend with multiple social media users calling the band out for seemingly ignoring the BDS cultural boycott of Israel.

Big Thief cancel shows in Tel Aviv following criticism

Big Thief have cancelled two shows in Tel Aviv, less than a week after they were first announced, following criticism over their decision to play in Israel. The band, who released new double album ‘Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe In You’ back in February, were set to play a pair of shows in bassist Max Oleartchick’s hometown on July 6 and 7.But today (June 9), they’ve confirmed that both shows will be cancelled.“We would like to start by clarifying a few things from our first post. When we spoke of loving ‘beyond disagreement’ and not knowing ‘where the moral high ground lies,’ that was in specific referred to playing shows in Israel during a time where BDS (The Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement is a Palestinian-led movement promoting boycotts, divestments, and economic sanctions against Israel) is calling for a cultural boycott,” starts the post.
