For Virginia songwriter and independent artist Anees, it led to a fortuitous meeting — and eventual collaboration — with Scooter Braun.    The music mogul is no stranger to the creative process, and has been credited as a songwriter and producer on tracks by his longtime clients Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande, as well as Ed Sheeran, and on the latest album by Demi Lovato, “Holy Fvck,” for which he served as EP and is credited as a producer on five songs alongside Warren “Oak” Felder. But Anees’ song “Leave Me” marks a public acknowledgment of Braun’s work as a co-writer, contributing lyrics that are clearly drawing from his own recent experience of splitting from his wife of seven years. Anees shared a snippet of the song via Instagram on Aug. 21, writing, “The universe has sent me a million signs that this song will absolutely shake ground. … This song has blessed me beyond my wildest dreams and it’s not even released yet. Especially as an independent artist, some of these blessings feel too good to be true … like the fact that I got to write this song with my brotha @scooterbraun. Truly a special experience.” 

Naman Ramachandran “Me, My Mom & Sharmila,” the feature directorial debut of queer Muslim writer-director Fawzia Mirza, has set its cast. The film will feature Amrit Kaur, the breakout star of Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble’s HBO Max series “The Sex Lives of College Girls”; Hamza Haq, who won best actor in 2021 and 2022 at the Canadian Screen Awards for CTV medical drama “Transplant”; and Nimra Bucha (“Ms. Marvel,” “Churails”). Set in 1999, the film follows Azra (Kaur) over 48 hours as she travels from her home in Canada to her parents’ homeland of Pakistan to bury her father (Haq). Azra struggles to connect with her conservative mother Mariam (Bucha), but her return to Pakistan launches her into memories both real and imagined that reveal their unexpected similarities.

Patrick Frater Asia Bureau ChiefAmerican music entrepreneur Scooter Braun is to join the Japanese talent discovery show “&Audition – The Howling.” The show is set to determine the final members of Hybe Labels Japan’s first Japanese boy band.Braun will be joined in the final episode of the show by chart-topping Korean rapper Zico and Japanese mega producer Imai Ryosuke. A global online voting process is also underway, through the “&Audition” community section on Hybe’s Weverse fan platform.The boy group is to consist of nine members. The TV show will eliminate six contestants, with the winning remaining five joining the four debut members.Braun has successfully launched the careers of stars such as Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande.

When executive producer Brad Winderbaum had the idea for an animated Marvel anthology series, he knew he needed director Bryan Andrews for the job. Based on the Marvel comic series of the same name, What If…? explores how small changes at pivotal moments in the MCU could change everything. While they began with small moments in the first season, Andrews says the series, which is renewed for two more seasons, is going to get more and more wild. What If…? is nominated for three Emmys, including a Outstanding Animated Program for the fourth episode, “What if… Doctor Strange Lost His Heart Instead Of His Hands?”

SZA will make her movie acting debut alongside Euphoria’s Chloe Cherry in Tuna Melt, according to reports.The film is being written and directed by writer and restaurateur Eddie Huang and is the figure’s second movie project following his directorial debut Boogie last year.According to Deadline, Tuna Melt has been compared to “an updated Pulp Fiction meets High Fidelity”. Huang will also star in the film, taking the lead role as a hitman who, after rendering his services, meets the love of his life.SZA is set to play Huang’s love interest, while Cherry’s role has yet to be disclosed.
