Sylvester Stallone is going through a rocky time in his personal life, but it's not stopping him from kicking butt on screen, and tapping into his inner superhero. Court documents reveal Stallone's wife Jennifer Flavin filed for divorce from the star on August 19, after 25 years of marriage. Four days after the filing, the "Rocky" star covered up a tattoo on his right arm of Flavin, replacing it with a picture of the dog Butkis, who appeared with him in the "Rocky" movies. In a statement to Fox News Digital, Stallone said: "I love my family.
We are amicably and privately addressing these personal issues." Stallone also opened up to Fox News Digital about his new film "Samaritan," where he plays a retired superhero. "It’s kind of like if Rocky were a superhero. It’s something that is identifiable and street like. It’s not set in some super fantastic universe, it’s set among brick and concrete, and identifiable situations. That’s what I liked about it," Stallone said at a recent press event.
"He can’t fly, he can't see through walls, fire doesn’t come out of his mouth. He is just a unique superhero. He’s almost like a modern day Hercules.
I think those are ones you can identify with." While it is a superhero movie, the "Rocky" star says that unlike other movies in the genre, the dangers in "Samaritan" are much more realistic. In the movie, Stallone's character left his vigilante ways behind after going through something in his personal life and decided instead to pursue a career he believed would make him invisible to the public, as a garbage man. It isn’t until his neighbor – a teenage boy – asks him for help that his perspective starts to shift, and he sees himself as a hero again.

Owen Gleiberman Chief Film Critic There’s a standard road map for an actor like Sylvester Stallone — at 76, still looking good, but no longer with a body made of rock(y) — to enter the comic-book movie zone, and that’s for him to play a figure like the righteous Ravager Stakar Ogord in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” or to voice King Shark in “The Suicide Squad.” That’s all likable nostalgic novelty casting. But what if Stallone, who in his way has played invincible superheroes for decades (think “Rambo” and its sequels or “The Expendables” and its sequels), wants to go full avenger and portray a total comic-book demigod? He’ll star in a chintzy slice of hellfire like “Samaritan,” based on the Mythos Comics graphic novel that was published in 2014. It’s set in Granite City, an everyday dystopia where Stallone lugs his body around with a reluctant roughneck shamble. He plays an aging crime-fighter-in-hiding in a movie that as written by Bragi F. Schut (who also wrote the comic) and directed by Julius Avery offers a conventional but downbeat, minimally plotted but maximally incendiary variation on bare-bones superhero action.
Samaritan is a new urban superhero action movie directed by Julius Avery and written by Bragi F. Schut. The film stars Sylvester Stallone, Dasha Polanco (Orange Is the New Black), Javon’ Wanna’ Walton (Euphoria), and Pilou Asbæk (Uncharted). This gritty story starts with promise, but the pacing comes to a screeching halt early on and never recovers. The cast is a solid mix of talented actors, but the script’s limitations restrict them. When stripped down to the basics, the Samaritan is a colorless venture that’s very much been there, done that, especially for Stallone.
