Strictly's Johannes Radebe smiles as he meets Prince Edward at Duke of Edinburgh Awards

The Queen is celebrating her Platinum Jubilee this weekend, marking 70 years of her reign. While the event is bound to be full of plenty of joyous moments for the longest reigning monarch in British history, it will also be the first milestone the Queen is celebrating without Prince Philip by her side.The Queen became a widow last year when Prince Philip died aged 99 after 73 years of marriage. She previously paid tribute to her beloved husband calling him her “strength and stay” over the years.

Queen Elizabeth will begin her Platinum Jubilee celebrations on Thursday morning with the Trooping the Colour parade to mark her 96th birthday, an annual event which has been postponed the last two years due to the coronavirus.  Elizabeth became the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee earlier this year following 70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom, Realms and the Commonwealth.  After a grand military display including horses, carriages, a flypast from the Royal Air Force and hundreds of musicians parading down The Mall to Horse Guard’s Palace, the queen is expected to appear on the Buckingham Palace balcony to greet the public.  Historically, the British monarch has taken the salute to her troops, known as the Household Division on Horse Guards Parade.  Queen Elizabeth II is photographed at Sandringham House to mark the start of Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee Year, on February 2, 2022 in Sandringham, Norfolk. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will be attending the Queen’s Trooping of the Colour for her Platinum Jubilee.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have arrived in the UK ahead of the Queen’s highly anticipated Platinum Jubilee celebrations, according to reports. Meghan, 40, hasn’t been in the UK since leaving her husband’s home-country in early 2020, while Harry’s first time back on British soil was last year for his late grandfather’s Prince Philip’s funeral.

The Queen is planning to attend the Chelsea Flower Show next week it has been confirmed. Buckingham Palace said the 96 year-old monarch is hoping to make an appearance at the event - which is a highlight in the annual royal calendar.The Queen's granddaughter, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson's daughter Princess Beatrice, 33, is already confirmed to be attending alongside Prince Edward, his wife Sophie the Countess of Wessex, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, the Duke of Kent, Prince and Princess Michael of Kent and Princess Alexandra.

Prince Edward stunned commuters as he boarded a busy tube service in central London this week. However royal sources say it is "not uncommon" for the Earl of Wessex to use the London underground to travel around the capital.

The Queen appeared emotional as a moving tribute was paid to her late husband Prince Philip at the Platinum Jubilee celebration at the Royal Windsor Horse Show on 15 May. Her Majesty, 96, who was recently seen for her first outing in six weeks despite her health issues, got a little misty eyed as her granddaughter Lady Louise drove the late Duke of Edinburgh's carriage during the finale of the 'Gallop Through History' segment of the show.
