The two New York ex-cons accused in connection with the shooting death of the father of a local Marist College student at a Poughkeepsie hotel were ordered held without bail on Friday after they pleaded not guilty.  Roy Johnson and Devin Taylor are charged separately for their involvement in the October 2 shooting that led to the death of 53-year-old Paul Kutz and the discovery of an alleged bomb-making "manual."  Wearing a white t-shirt and an orange jail-issued jumpsuit with his hair up, Johnson – the man accused of opening fire and killing Kutz – appeared in New York's Dutchess County Court early Friday. A federal judge temporarily blocked parts of New York state's new gun law in order to allow the Gun Owners of America to pursue a lawsuit challenging the legislation.  Chief Judge Glenn Suddaby of Northern District of New York state in Syracuse ruled that the Gun Owners of America (GOA) have a legitimate case for lawsuit against the new state law complicating the process to obtain a gun license. The decision will not go into effect for three days to allow the New York government to appeal Suddaby's ruling to a higher court.

Drake has announced announced a small theatre show in New York for next month.The Canadian artist, who released his seventh album ‘Honestly, Nevermind’ in June, will take to the stage at the 1,500-capacity Apollo Theater in Harlem on November 11 as part of SiriusXM’s Small Stages series.As Spin notes, Drake has only played four live shows so far this year.Tickets for the star’s intimate NYC gig are available for free to SiriusXM subscribers. The stereotypical scrawny, bookish, indie vibe and image of the group’s early records had become so cemented that few seemed to notice how tight and accomplished they became after drummer Steve West joined the group in 1993. Although they always downplayed their ability to “rock out” and still do, when the band locks in on hypnotic grooves while singer-guitarist Stephen Malkmus plays solos with a Lou Reed-ish combination of soaring melodies and brittle squall (usually finishing with some self-mocking gesture), they can hold their own with virtually any rock band. On their later albums, that seasoning carried over to their songwriting, as Malkmus’ almost run-on melodies were delivered in a cleaner, sharper manner, as if he were no longer quite so embarrassed by how pretty or catchy they can be.
