Steve Lacy’s ‘Bad Habit’ Earns Singer First No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100

Jem Aswad Senior Music Editor Grammy and Oscar winning singer-songwriter Sam Smith has announced their fourth studio album, “Gloria,” will be released on January 27, 2023 via Capitol Records. Made with longtime collaborators Jimmy Napes, Stargate and Max Martin stablemate Ilya, the album is described in the announcement as “not only a creative revelation but something of a personal revolution for the celebrated artist. Lyrically, the subjects dive deep and wide, into contemporary narratives around sex, lies, passion, self-expression and imperfection.” Smith says, “It feels like emotional, sexual and spiritual liberation. It was beautiful, with this album, to sing freely again. Oddly, it feels like my first-ever record. And it feels like a coming of age.”

Legislators in Michigan are mulling a bill that would classify allowing minors to go through gender transition procedures as child abuse. The legislation, known as House Bill 6454 and introduced by Republicans on Tuesday, states that "a person is guilty of child abuse in the first degree" if a "person knowingly or intentionally consents to, obtains, or assists with a gender transition procedure for a child." In the bill, a "person" is described as the parent or guardian of a child or a licensed medical professional.

Meat Loaf‘s ‘Bat Out Of Hell’ has been named as the best-selling debut album in UK chart history.Compiled by The Official Charts Company in partnership with National Album Day, which will take place tomorrow (October 15), the ‘Official All-Time Debut Albums Top 20’ has placed the late artist’s 1977 solo album at the top.The chart is based on combined UK sales and streams since records began in 1956, with Meat Loaf having sold over 3.5million copies of ‘Bat Out Of Hell’ in the UK alone to date.Second in the chart is James Blunt‘s 2004 LP ‘Back To Bedlam’, with Leona Lewis (‘Spirit’, 2007), Lady Gaga (‘The Fame’, 2008) and Dido (‘No Angel’, 1999) rounding out the top five.Other entrants in the top 20 include debut albums by the Spice Girls, Coldplay, Mike Oldfield, Adele, The Killers, Guns N’ Roses and Oasis. No surprises there, but at least there was some fresh blood in the No. 2 positions. A new album from hard rock veterans Slipknot debuted in second place. And on the Billboard Hot 100, a duet by Sam Smith and Kim Petras, “Unholy,” showed surprising strength in moving up to No. 2 after debuting well one spot behind that last week. Billboard points out that Bad Bunny is within striking distance of a record on the album chart, or at least a recent record. His 13 weeks on top with “Un Verano Sin Ti” have the album tied for the most weeks spent by an album at No. 1 in the last decade; he’s currently on par with Drake’s “Views” and the “Frozen” soundtrack. If he reaches No. 1 next week, he’ll singular own the record for most weeks spent on top over the last 10 years. But if we go back more than a decade, he still has a way to go to surpass Adele’s “21,” which spent 24 nonconsecutive weeks leading the chart in 2011-12.

HBO debuted the trailer for Year One: A Political Odyssey, which examines President Joe Biden’s first year in office, with what the premium network calls a “rare glimpse into the inner working of the White House.”

Directed by Emmy-winning filmmaker John Maggio, “Year One” explores the dynamics of the President’s inner circle, featuring archival news footage and insider interviews with secretary of state Antony Blinken, national security advisor Jake Sullivan, secretary of defense Lloyd Austin, CIA director William Burns and White House chief of staff Ron Klain, among other members of Biden’s cabinet.

There were just four of us, including myself, on the bus, however we were all treated for significant injuries,» Hardy wrote in a statement posted to Twitter on Sunday.
